William Revenous Chapter Five - Expected or Unexpected?

Chapter 5

Ceddric and William hurry through the corridors of Hogwarts to get to the room where Ancient Runes  is held. They're already a little late but luckily Professor Babbling isn't the worst when it comes to being late at the start of the schoolyear. but later on the magically seals the door , so when you're late there is no way to enter the room, unless you follow the instructions on the room which are, of course, in ancient runes. 

Maybe it sounds a bit odd that Wiliam and Cedric chose ancient runes since they despised learning languages of any kind. But Ancient runes was different. Every wizard sometimes dreams of finding a spellbook with spells that the ministry haven't heard of or have banned. It would make their life more easy, or they'll be more prepared of what dangers that the books foretell. But it could be quite frustrating if you can't read the books in the first place. So kind of reluctantly Cedric and William chose the subject, just to be prepared. 

"I sure hope we learn the ancient runes quickly so that we can drop this subject and sleep a few extra hours on the monday morning", Cedric said to William. 

"Yes that would be awesome, But i am just a little afraid that this subject could become just as boring as History of Magic.", William replied.

"That won't be the case right? For one she isn't dead, and from what I've heard she isn't boring either. But I did hear that she is very keen on us reading the runes right. She could become very vengeful if that isn't the case. But that's good though, then we could hopefully learn everything in one go. I think the room was just around this corner, right?"

"I've never been here before", William said, "Look on those signs on the door. I can't believe there is something written there that we could ever understand. And yet I know for a fact those should be ancient runes!"

Cedric opens the door and William walks inside first. Inside there were all of their yearmates sitting in the school benches. Turning their heads to whomever was disturbing the start of the class. 

"And there are the last latecomers. Quickly take a seat please. I'd prefer we waste our time on remembering runes rather than constant disturbance.", professor Babbling said. She was standing in front of a wall that was apparently covered by a huge drawing board.  

"Ok now everyone is here i can finally start with the lesson. Welcome to Ancient Runes. The study of a dead language. In the last few hundred years the runes are rarely used but they're still pretty well known among the wizarding community. Just like the Muggles once invented the wheel, so did wizards invent the first spell once. And when the muggles were drawing their life stories on the cave walls, wizards were figuring out a way to put their magic into some kind of writing. but before we get to the true history of Ancient runes we need to-" she stops talking and picks up a big book and throws it with unexpected tremendous strength on the table. It was as if a gunshot was fired inside the classroom.

"- start with the first assignments to get a grip on the first words. On your dest you'll find the dictionary and if it's correct you have the ancient rune book yourself. Well then, for the first lesson i want everyone to have translated this small sheet of parchment. Just hold on , I still have to copy it Repretivo!" The sheet of parchment in her heand multiplied at least thirty times and they settled themselves on the tables of the students. Immediatly after receiving everyone started on their work. 

"Who... reads... this... is... a... Is it either a genius, beginner, chicken or ferret?", William asked Cedric. 

"Most of the runes almost look identical! Who on earth would create a language that makes words so much the same?", Cedric replied.

"Well to be fair.. Dutch has many words with different meanings. Like Bank in english is either a Bank or a couch in dutch."

"Stop confusing me even more Will", Cedric replied annoyed. "But you can see that that last word is either a chicken or a ferret. Don't you see that dot over there?"
