The last few days went by extremely quick. Lessons feel like only lasting a second where teachers just try to convince you their subject is the most important of all of them, and to prove that, they made sure they would be covering most of your free time in homework! Two rolls of parchment about werewolf and other nightly creatures for Professor Snape. One roll of parchment about the theory behind transforming a teacup into a bald eagle, ("We won't forget any other bird after the dodo fiasco!", said Professor McGonagall). And a little practice of the shielding spell for Professor Binnings would at least cost three hours. In the previous years it wasn't allowed to fling spells to fellow students without serious concequences. But the shielding spell practice is something special. Because not only does it prevent enemy spells from coming through, it also prevents you from exploding kettles, falling rocks in the mountains, or even falling off a cliff! It was one of the most useful spells known to the wizarding world. Only surpassed by the spell that gives light to the tip of the wand, and the spell that unfolds dirty socks without you having to touch them.
Unfortunately the shielding spell is only taught when something ominous is coming this way and this Serious Black guy was perillous enough for William and Cedric to spend hours of shield practicing in the common room of Hufflepuff. Exhausted and longing for their beds, Will and Cedric take a quick break on one of the many comfortable couches with a view of the lake.
"This is bull!", Cedric said. Only because tfhere MAYBE might be some guy walking about in school we have to sacrefice our free time for a spell that doesn't even guarantee true safety!"
"Yeah", William said. "Wouldn't a guy who is that stealthy hit us in the back anyway? There is no way we can keep this shield up for ever anyway!"
"Well to be honest Will, you kind of suck at it.", Cedric said with a grin. "Seriously, only three seconds is your best? Pathetic!"
"Thanks for rubbing that in, at least mine is still invisible. Yours is grey-ish and ten seconds isn't as awesome as you think... I think." William grabbed his wand again and flinged a rubber duck at Cedric, Who non-verbally casted a shield spell and the duck got reflected into the fire. "Now that's a waste of a conjuration", Cedric said. "Poor little duckie."
"Well at least the flames have something to feast on", William answered. "What's up with snape though lately? He's worse than usual. Our last session had cost 80 points from Hufflepuff!"
"Yeah and that was only because the spitting potion engulfed his shoes with that distasteful water! You'd think that either he would've counted for it to to happen, or he thinks there is some hidden meaning behind the potion, like it only fires on people that deserve it or something.", Cedric said thoughtfully.
"Right, there you go again with your random plots. Maybe his shoes were longing for a shower!", William said sarcastically.
"Yeah or that!", Cedric said. Clearly his eyes were now opened more wide than before. How could he not thought of that, William wondered.
"But that isn't the only thing weird about Snape lately. Have you noticed how he flinched when he figured out the spots on his shoes kind of resembled a dog head?", Cedric asked.
"More wolf-like if you'd ask me", William said.
"Yeah and he visits proffessor Lupin an awful lot for someone who doesn't like him. It's almost as if-"
"Lupin is a werewolf yeah, yeah.", William said. It was rather obvious to them because Lupin changed in appearence like clockwork when the full moon approached. Then he suddenly got 'sick' when it was actually full moon. And then there were all these doghairs on his robe afterwards. You'd figure other people would notice it as well, but that wasn't the case. Maybe they just didn't want to believe it?
