Maverick looked into the faces of all the able men and women that stood in front of him. "I know that everyone of you is a part of my pack." He looked over them all again," And I also know that you have families of your own to love and protect. Believe me when I say that if I didn't need your help then I wouldn't ask this of you.
And if you fear the thought of dying then I won't be angry if you leave. So I'll ask now, anyone that would like to leave may." No one moved, the wind blew Maverick's hair. A boy, barely passed his teens, stepped forward," Alpha, you have been nothing but fair and kind to us." Several heads nodded and others said yeah. "It would make us happy to aid you in getting your mate back. Yes, we may fear death. We may be wolves but we are also human. We have seen how happy you have been with Silas and I think I speak for everyone when I say that our Alpha's happiness is our own. Your suffering is ours. And when you mess with a member of our pack, you mess with us all."
Maverick was struck silent. A small smile graced his face," I thank you from the bottom of my heart." He blinked and took a breath," Training begins now. It will be hard, but I believe you all can handle it."
Sweat ran down Maverick's chest. He had abandoned his shirt long ago. "Vic." He turned and found Grayson with a towel and water bottle. He wiped his face and hung it from his neck before downing half the bottle.
"I feel eyes on me." Grayson looked at him," From our own?" Mav shook his head," No. I'm not sure what but they have ill intentions." Grayson's eyebrows furrowed," I'll post guards around the houses and double patrols." Maverick nodded," Thank you." He downed the bottle and handed it back to Grayson along with the towel.
Mav took another break after two more hours of training. He pulled on his shirt and walked around, watching the other pack members as they went through training. The eyes never left him and the feeling in his stomach continued to grow.
