He shouldn't be feeling this way, as if something was going to happen. He sighed, taking a sip out of his cup. "Alpha?" His bicolored eyes landed on the woman in front of him. "Is something wrong?" She was weary. He knew why. He wasn't a wolf anymore, at least, he wasn't a whole one.
"I'm alright. Get some sleep, we leave out at dawn." She bowed her head before returning to her assigned group. Maverick looked up at the stars. He couldn't help but blame himself. If he had been the way he was before he met Silas, then he wouldn't have been kidnapped right under his nose. He shook his head, Silas would be disappointed in him for thinking this way. Silas made him a better person.
His wolf blood boiled, the rage and desire to spill the blood of the ones who took what was his making him restless. Maverick bit his lip, puncturing the skin. Heads turned as the smell of his blood filled the air. They said nothing but watched him out the corner of their eyes, they went back to what they were doing before.
He yawned, his fangs flashing. The white-haired male said nothing as he stood and started climbing the tree. He leaned against the trunk and sighed, closing his eyes. Before long, he fell asleep.
The pack members where asleep when he woke up. The only ones who were awake were the ones who were tasked with keeping watch, obviously switching in the night so that it would be fair and everyone got some sleep.
They watched him with curious eyes as he jumped out of the tree and made his way towards them. "I'm gonna go for a quick run, I'll be back within an hour." "Yes, Alpha." He nodded before shifting and running into the woods. He was thankful that it was still dark out.
Once he was far enough out of earshot, he began looking for something to eat. His throat had been starting to burn and it woke him up earlier than he would have liked.
A deer's heartbeat broke the silence. His ear twitched, flicking towards the noise. He could hear her blood flowing through her veins. Shifting back into his human form, he silently crept towards the doe. Once in sight, he noticed she was still sleeping. She was a little ways away from her herd, good for him but bad for her.
Maverick pounced, sinking his fangs into her neck before she had time to even try to gather her legs underneath of herself. Her eyes were open but unseeing, he closed his own so that he wouldn't have to see her suffering.
After some time, her heart slowly stopped, too weak to pump with no blood. He pulled back and licked the blood from his lips. Deciding to leave her there for the wildlife, he began his way back to camp.
He was met with the stares of his packmates when he returned. He knew they could smell the blood that now coursed through his veins. His voice snapped them out of their stupor," Wake everyone, we leave at first light." His blood was boiling, his wolf's anger bubbled under his skin. Like an itch that you couldn't quite scratch.
Silas was going to be okay. He would make sure of it.
