"Um what?" I said ogling at him and at his unbelievable words. Harbinger? Is that what I actually am or has this guy actually have gone insane. "Harbinger? Me a harbinger?" I added still in disbelief. First of all he took my bike and now is calling me a harbinger of death? unbelievable. I remained silent, waiting for a reply. He then heaved a sighed. I crossed my arms still in anticipation for a response. But instead I got silence. After a few more moments I grew impatient and walked towards him to grab my bike. "I know what happened when you were 12." He said. I then stopped dead on my tracks, I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth because no one in my current school knows about the incident. I made sure of it, but now this guy knows about it, just who is he?
"Who are you? And how do you know about that?" I said in between my teeth. Just as he was about to speak I cut him off. "You know what? I don't care anymore. I just want to go home and rest. Now give me my bike. I have had enough for today and I'm tired. Leave me alone." I said violently pulling my bike to my side. I rode on it and peddled as quick as I could to reach home. I biked past a few kids from school, they seem to be going to a party because of all their unnecessary noise. I peddled faster because I really just want to collapse on my bed. After a few more moments of frantic peddling, I reached home. I got off my bike slightly sweaty and gasping for air. I walked up to the door and opened it to be greeted by my drunk father slumped on the sofa. I tried to closed the door behind me as silently as possible so as not to catch his attention. But the old wooden door just had to let out a loud screech. I turned to look at my half awake father who was now looking back at me.
"Hey kid! Get over here and get me another beer from seven eleven." he said in a slurred but loud manner. I went over to the table by him and took his wallet and pulled out a few bucks. I then left without another word. I got on my bike and peddled to the store. I got off my bike and entered the store. I put my hood on so as not to make any contact with anyone. I went to the beverage aisle and as I was just about to pull out two bottles of beer, someone's hand was on top of mine. I looked up to see who it was. It was the same guy from a while ago. I raised an eyebrow at him and he sighed at me and removed his hand.
"Please just listen to me!" he said more desperately than ever before. "Why should I? I don't even know you! First of all you made the air around you a while ago spiral then made my bike suddenly teleport to your side and now you followed me here?" I said infuriated. "I know. I'm sorry. I'll explain everything in a while. I just need you to look into my eye." he said softly. "wha-" I said but was interrupted by him grabbing my face and making me look into his eyes. I could have easily averted my gaze but there was this sudden compulsion to look into my eyes. I tried to resist but failed. When our gazes locked his eyes suddenly started to glow a stunning shade of emerald. And then it suddenly stopped glowing. He let go of my face. "What the-" I said but was interrupted by sudden whispers in my head. I look at him in agony. "What did you do!?" I half shouted at him in frustration. "Please. Just don't fight it! Listen to what they're saying." He said with an intense pleading look in his eyes . I gave him one last dirty look then I closed my eyes to focus.
I tried to drain out all the noise around me and then the voices got louder and clearer. 'Sandra is going to die!' the voices said. "Sandra is going to die." I whispered to the mystery man in front of me . "Is anyone here named Sandra?" he shouted looking around frantically. "I'm Sandra. Why?" A teenage redhead said looking at me and him curiously with a slight concern in her eyes. I looked at the mystery guy and we exchanged a worried glance at each other. His faced looked panic and he was patting his now sweating hands dry in his coat.
"What else do you see?" He whispered a slight tremble in his voice. "I don't know... I'm new to this. I don't know how all this works or who the hell are you. If you could at least give me a name. It would be great." I said to him. He simply stared at me dumbfounded. "A teenage girl is about to die and you're worrying about my name?" He said slightly irritated. "Well, yes." was all I could say. He stared at me for another second and sighed. "You should be thankful you're pretty." he said more to himself rather than to me. "What?" I said as if I didn't hear him the first time. "Nothing, the name's Ace." He said slightly choking at the mention of his own name. "Now... FOCUS!" He suddenly shouted causing me and the other people in the store to jump slightly.
"Okay, chill jeez." I said squeezing my eyes shut. I tried so hard to focus that I started sweating and I could feel that my legs were ready to give up on me any moment now. I opened my eyes and started gasping for air. "What did you see?" Ace asked as soon as I caught my breath. "Nothing. I could just hear the voices." I said with a tone of defeat in my voice. "Just remember what led to you seeing what was going to happen when you were twelve. Like if you have any triggers or if you did something." He said trying to sound as calm as possible but I could still hear the slight panic in his voice. "All I remember was that I fought the voices and eventually I could see what was about to happen..." I said when suddenly an idea struck me, Ace could see it on my face and he gaped his mouth in anticipation.
"What if focused on making the voices louder and then when the voices are about to make my head explode then will I only fight it then maybe it could trigger it." I said with a certain twinkle in my eyes. He then gave me a small smile and nodded. I nodded back at him and closed my eyes again to try and focus. I tuned everything out. And focused on making the voices louder.
sandra is going to die
I focused harder and harder until I started to feel a physical strain. I could feel my body heating up and I started sweating. I kept trying harder to the point that my legs buckled and I fell to the ground but Ace caught me. I didn't even dare open my eyes because I knew it would cause me to lose focus. I kept panting and sweating in Ace's arms.
SANDRA IS GOING TO DIE
The voices got so loud to the point that the voices was practically causing my brain to vibrate vigorously. I opened my eyes and started to feel dizzy, my head was aching. I sat up and clutched my forehead. "NO! MAKE IT STOP!" Was what I first said. Ace was saying something but I can't hear anything beside the loud screams in my head. "AHHHHH! NOOOO!" I screamed because the slight ache of my head progressed to an agonizing pain. It felt as if there were a thousand drills in my head being drilled simultaneously. I squeezed my eyes shut and fought it as hard as I could. My futile attempts led to the pain getting increasingly painful. "AAAHHH!" I shouted again. I focused all my power into fighting it. And then there it came. The voices silenced and I could hear and see what was happening.
"Don't let her leave the store. A guy wearing a blue cap will be waiting outside to shoot her in the head." I said in between pants. I tried my hardest to stand even though everyone in the store was staring at me in confusion and concern. "I'm fine. I'm sorry to worry everyone." I said and they all gave ma small smile. I smiled back. I looked at Ace, he looked at me and took my hand in his. I was confused but then suddenly we were outside the store and behind the man I saw in my head who was going to shoot Sandra. I looked at Ace and he bent down to whisper something to me. "Stay behind me." I did as he said and just stared as Sandra walked out the store with a paper bag at hand. The man took stance but then as he was about to pull the trigger, Ace seemed to have made time move slowly for a second so that he could move the shooter's hand to aim at the glass of the store and suddenly everything flowed normally again. The shot was fired but completely missed. The glass shattered causing everyone in the store to yelp in fear. Everyone in the vicinity was startled, especially Sandra causing her to run the other way and never look back.
The man stood there shocked as if it was the first time ever that he has missed a shot. He looked down at his hands which were shaking. He then started running, panicked by the sound of police sirens and staff coming out the store to check out what happened. Ace then took my hand again and teleported us back into the store.
"Do you finally see why we need you?" Ace said smiling down at me. "We saved a life, you saved a life."
