Melissa's POV

"I call bullshit." Alex said unconvinced at Ace's statement. Ace opened his hand to reveal a floating orb of energy. This probably took a toll on Ace's body because he was sweating and his legs were shivering slightly. It's also worth mentioning that I could feel no air around him. Is that a bad sign?

"Is it still bull now?" He said with a smug look on his face. Their eyes grew in shock at the glowing orb resting above Ace's palm. Alex too was indeed shocked but she immediately wiped that expression off her face.

"So what? Why would you want to give us  power?" Sienna said folding her hands.

"You might want to sit down for that." I jokingly said. But everyone gave me a glare of disapproval. "What? You do need to sit down. It is a long story and a long explanation." I added.

"Fine." Ace said as he sat down. The rest of the 'misfits', as I like to call them, sat down too.

After an hours worth of explanations, questions and answers. It was finally over. I stood up and stretched a bit.

"So, who's in?" Ace asked in anticipation. The teens then stared at the ground as they contemplated on their decisions.

"I'm in." Scarlet said shyly. She seemed like the shy one since she made no eye contact with anyone since they arrived. Ace then smiled at her and signaled her to stand by him on the other side of the lot.

     "I am too." Another said.

"Count me in!" Another said until there was only Alex left on the other side of the lot. Her expression spelled disbelief and doubt. oh no...

Alex's POV

"Alex?" Ace said holding his hand out to me as he gave me a soft smile.

I didn't know what came over me but I just suddenly started to break down. What if I died fighting yellow? Heck! What if I die just purely from training? What could happen to school? What would happen if I loose my scholarship?  What if I loose my parents?

I started to cry and fall down onto the ground as my emotional turmoil was still taking over. I started to sob into my hands and hyper ventilating.

"Alex!" I heard voices say in a chorus behind me. I felt a warm hand rest on my shoulder as I lifted my face to see who it was. It was Jax.

"Hey pretty lady. I know there is a lot on your plate right now. But so does mine." Jax said as he sat down beside me, comforting me. I could smell his cologne and his shampoo and it had a slight calming effect on me. I inhaled and exhaled trying to calm down even further.

"What if my whole life totally turns upside down? Sure I  do have a lot on my plate but I wouldn't want my plate to perform somersaults." I said smiling slightly at my joke. "Neither would I."  Jax chuckled.

I looked around to see a concerned looking Ace behind Jax peering down on our little conversation. "But honestly, If my life turning upside down was the only thing at stake to prevent the entire spirit realm from being the one to turn upside down. Then I could gladly even make my life do freaking somersaults. If it means saving an entire world for the better of everyone, I would gladly give my service and my life." Jax said as he looked intensely into my eyes. I simply stared at this man, impressed by him being selfless.

I felt inspired and I stopped crying and just stared at him. I stared at him because I wondered. I wondered if ever I could be that selfless and righteous. To give up whatever it takes to help, not for my sake but for others. I wish I was on  that level of sympathy... I could be just that if I joined them.

I looked up at the rest of them. They all looked pretty tense but they still gave me a smile of reassurance and encouragement as I looked at each of them.  I did want to be like them now. No matter the cost, I wanted to be the hero in someone else's story for once.

"Fine. I'll join you even if it costs me my life." I said giving Jax and then Ace a small smile. Jax took my hands in his and squeezed them giving me a smile. The rest of the group then started to cheer as we all walked over to the other side of the lot. It felt good to decide to do something for someone else's well being rather than for myself.

As we were being led by some other guy who I believed was named Altair to the other side of the lot, Ace was left behind the herd of noisy teens.

"You guys do know I won't let you die right?" Ace said and I just smiled.
