Melissa's POV

Finally arriving at school I contemplated making a run for it to the back door or actual face the entire student body with Jax. Apparently he was fairly popular and I was the polar opposite. I'm not exactly sure how people would handle that.

I've observed that many people work hard to be able to gain a seat on the cool kids table or even to grab a chance to walk by 'the Jax'.

Jax gave me a small reassuring smile which doesn't happen to reassure me of anything. Although I really wanted to feel reassured, I couldn't.

We were finally in front of the main school doors. The only thing separating us from the institution is a flight of stairs. My legs felt heavy as we walked towards it. Each step encouraging me to use twice the strength I used in the last step. My mind was in a turmoil.

Why should I even care. I'm supposed to be used to all the bullying I've been receiving. Why am I struggling to move?

I'm supposed   to be used to all of this. Turns out I was just enduring the daily course of my existence. I'm not really used to it. I loathed that part of my day. Probably because I kept my mind occupied, occupied with bigger things...

Bigger things I just consider to be bigger because I want the acrimony I receive to be a small one. A small one I can just brush off and be on with my day. But once I have successfully brushed it off then will I think...

Think that it will happen again

Thus I forced my mind to believe it was a small problem even though it wasn't just so that I could get past it everyday.

I wanted to cry it all out. But I know I'm stronger that.

I felt someone tap my shoulder making me jolt. I needed it, the monster, my thoughts was going to consume me. I had to snap out of it.

I lifelessly turned around to see who it was. It was Altair together with him was the rest of the group. They were at the bottom of the stairs making me realize how far I lasted walking up these gray, lifeless stairs.

"What's up?" Jax said as he looked behind Altair to see the rest. He waved at them and gave them a small smile.

"There happened to be a change of plan." Altair said as his previously calm expression turned into a serious one making me feel concerned.

"What change of plan?" I said with a hint of concern in my voice. Jax looked at me suddenly worried with the tone of my voice.

"You're all going to get your powers today." Altair said. Jax immediately jumped up in joy.

"So basically I'm here to drag you all back to Ace." Altair added with a bored expression on his face.

"Do we teleport there?!" Scarlet said slightly enthusiastic.

"No, everyone get in the van." Altair said pointing to a white mini van. The enthusiasm on all of our faces (including mine, surprise surprise) were immediately wiped off. We slowly started to walk to the mini van, literally dragging ourselves in disappointment.

"Duh no, we're gonna teleport." Altair said with a 'matter of fact' tone. We all glared at his lying face and soon enough excitement was restored on our faces. We all formed a circle and held hands as everything in front of me slowly disappeared, teleporting back to Ace.

-*-*-*-*-*-

Fear, fear was evident in all of their eyes as they shivered and fidgeted in their seat. Even I was scared though I wouldn't experience whatever they will, I feel for them.

   Another scream

The veins on his throat erected as it looked like it was going to explode any second now. His hands restrained with a piece of rope. Forcing his way out, drenching him in sweat in the process.

   Another scream

Pain. It was evident in his eyes as he screamed his lungs out, venting it out. As some came in whimpers, pain was indeed present. A lot of it. As he let out...

   Another scream

"Eliot doesn't happen to handle high concentrations of energy that well, but well enough for him to be here. Which is why I gave him power before all of you so that he would have the most time to heal." Ace said as he plopped himself on the ground in front of us, visibly worn out.

"Will it hurt a lot?" Alex said making all of us turn to her giving her the 'duh' look. Apparently there's someone screaming in agonizing pain right before us.

"Well, It's more of mind over matter." Ace said as he shrugged.

"Mind over matter huh? So... um... I guess he probably took a hit before all of this." Jax said and we all giggled. Not because we really felt like it, but to lighten up the mood.

"I guess that's why..." Ace said looking at Eliot's worn out figure that was apparently now calm and knocked out on the floor.

"I guess there's nothing to be scared of. I didn't have any drugs or alcohol before this... not that I know of." Summer said as she thought about having had anything prior that would mess with her thinking as she walked towards Ace slowly.

"Well?" Ace said in anticipation as he stood up weakly, heaving a sigh.

"I'm clean." Summer said as the worry on her face was replaced with an inclined expression.

Ace opened his palm as Summer place her hand on top closing her eyes. Ace glowed a white, subtle hue as the energy slowly made its way onto Summer's arm causing her to flinch slightly probably at the foreign feeling of it.

The energy soon enveloped Summer's entire body as she started to sweat slightly. Ace let  go and he immediately stopped glowing. Summer opened her eyes as she then started to pull on her hoodie as she sweated and had trouble breathing. The energy around her eventually disappeared as we immediately went over to help her.

She then fell to the ground as she gasped for air spontaneously and removed her hoodie. Her hair, her clothes and she was drenched in sweat. Her whole body was on fire.

"Hey, shhh. It's okay. Mind over matter, mind over matter, mind over matter." Hunter said as he held her warm body in his arms. Summer seemed to calm down.

"There you go." Hunter said as Summer eventually stopped hyperventilating.

"I feel like shit." Summer murmured causing everyone to laugh. "I feel exactly like the first time I had a shot of vodka but thrice as worse." She added as she smiled weakly. I felt a small smile creep in my face.

I guess I felt joyed to seeing her succeed. The way she has a smile on her face even right after just going through that. I felt happy.

I guess mind over matter it is.
