The One Who Knew

Prologue

"They've done it again, the Fabulous Flying Graysons!" The Grayson family walks off stage to the back stage where I am waiting. Mary Grayson ruffles my hair smiling at me as she passes, then I see Dick.

"Great performance Dick" I say with a smile

"Thanks" he deadpans not even looking at me as he walks away. I sigh to myself thinking of how he will never notice me.

That night there was to be another performance a quick Flying Graysons show.

"Performing death-defying stunts without the aid of a net the fabulous Flying Graysons!" I heard Mr. Haley announce I ran up to the backstage curtins just in time to see something fly from the crowd and hit the high wire while John and Mary Grayson were still crossing I watched as they fell to their deaths. Then I heard Dick yell, then a few minutes later I saw a crying Dick run past me.

"Dick wait!" I run after him and find him curled in a ball crying in the middle of the isle of the living quarters in the Haley's circus train.

"Dick.... are you ok?"

"Do I look ok to you?" he snaps

"No you look distraught."

"Yeah I'm distraught 'my parents' just died!" He practically yells in my face "And now i'm an orphan like you" he whispers. That brings a tear to my eye as I say.

"Well get traught and be glad your not dead too" I glare at him tears still streaming down my cheeks from his comment and the fact that Mary the only lady ever being close to being my mother had just died.

"I wish I was" he mumbles

"get up" I say sternly while grabbing his hand

"Where are we going?" he asks but I just ignore him leading him to his room I grab a towel and a change for cloths then I push him into the bathroom. When he's done I lead him to his bed and tuck him in. Then I move to leave.

"Don't leave" He looks at me with tears still in his eyes patting the spot next to him "I don't want to be alone" I sigh

"Ok" I smile weakly and crawl into the bed next to him where we stay till morning.

When I wake up i'm in bed alone. I scramble to the window and catch a glimpse of Dick climbing into an expensive car, then he's gone and I can't help but get that feeling that i'll never see him again.
