"I've always liked the line that "A child is not a cup to be filled, but a candle to be lit." Lighting those candles has less to do with what we tell kids about the world than what they learn about it through exploring, imagining, and observing the world that surrounds them."

"Naeema, Nadira come downstairs please. Now! " I yelled from the kitchen as I placed one cornflakes with 3 spoonful of sugar - warm at Nadira's place and one cornflakes warm without any sugar (I don't know how she copes) in front of Naeema's seat. I made sure to place Naeema's spoon on the right hand side and her cup of orange juice on the left; if it is not in its proper place, she gets really agitated and ends up not eating. Naeema's character is really interesting, because she will put the utensils back where to its proper place.

... Sometimes it scares me!

"You know daddy - " Is what Nadira started with as soon as she came down the stairs.

"Oh. " I said, faking a shock. " Walaycum salam to you too beautiful. I had a nice sleep thank you. " I said, and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

" Daddy, your beard tickles. " Nadira said and started giggling, I chuckled at her childishness, it was so cute.

" Asalamu alaycum daddy, I can't wait to see dahdee, I've got so much to tell her! " Naeema said as she started eating her cornflakes.

" Ermm, have we said our bismillah? " I double checked. Naeema gave me a look.

" Of course, I don't want the shaytaan to eat with me, he's eew! " I couldn't help but laugh, Nadira joined in whilst Naeema gave me an innocent look.

"Alhamdulilah" I muttered as I looked in the girls room. Today was the day I was doing up the house with painting and rearrangements - this is going to take a while. I dropped the girls an hour ago at their nans house - their mum's mum so that I can get the house done quickly and also so that they don't have to inhale the fumes of the paint. They will be staying over there for the night so I hope that it will go if I open all the windows in sha Allah.

As soon as I parked the car, their aunty ran outside of course with her jilbab on, excited to see the girls. The girls squealed and squeezed out of their seat and out of the car to greet their aunt.

I'm glad that they have someone else to talk to other then myself, someone who is female even and a look-a-like to their mum, alhamdulilah. Even though it is a requirement in Islam to lower your gaze, I have to especially lower my gaze when I come to their grans house as their aunty looks a lot like their mum. She reminds me of her, and makes me miss her even more than I already do.

I was sitting in the masjid doing my dhikr after the Asr salaah when a brother approached me.

"Asalamu alaycum, are you new in the area? I haven't seen you around here before. " He said as he offered me his right hand to shake.  His skin color was tanned and he was quite big in build.

"Walaycum salam warahmatullahi wabarakatu akhii, me and my girls just moved here two or so weeks ago alhamdulilah. " I replied and returned his smile.
