When I woke up, everything was hazy for a few minutes.Luke still had me wrapped firmly in his arms.
His breathing was steady and slow, meaning he was still asleep.
An episode from One Tree Hill – the show I had switched Netflix to last night after Mean Girls ended – was playing, the sound and drama fading into the background.
Melissa was sitting on the rocking chair angled away from the couch, drinking – chugging – a cup of coffee. She glanced over at me with bags under her eyes, and smiled at Luke and I, unaware I was awake for a moment before we made eye contact.
"He's a light sleeper." Melissa whispered as if I didn't know. "He'll be up soon, I'm sure." I grinned.
I'm sure she believed it was because of what she had said but it was purely because I found it amusing that she thought I wanted Luke to wake up.
It was a lot warmer cuddled in the blankets with him than it would be if he woke up and we were forced to separate.
Melissa and I went back to focusing on the TV for a moment before I slowly flipped over towards Luke and pushed my head into his chest, his heartbeat faintly mixing in with the television.
I curled the blanket underneath myself and closed my eyes again. Luke groaned and tightened his grip on me.
