Mila used to be happier than this. She was bright, cheerful, and happy. She smiled all the time, and was always friendly and kind. Until her mother passed away three years ago.

It was a Sunday morning when she woke up and went down to get a drink of water- when she saw her mother lying on the floor- lifeless. She was often sick, and the other day they'd been to the hospital and the words of the doctor weren't kind, but she didn't... the doctor didn't say...

She suddenly got that very impossible thought. It was impossible- she was fine last night. She shook her, and shouted at her ear. Nothing. She felt the world break on her, she felt the knot in her stomach, she could hear her own breathing.

It was getting blurry, and numb. She called everyone on her phone list. It was too much, she was alone, and it was just too much. She looked back at the floor and saw her mom's lifeless body....

And she woke up.
Sigh...
It was another nightmare.
"When will I ever get over this.." she thought.

She saw Jay beside her, sleeping peacefully. She kissed his forehead, felt a knot in her stomach, and closed her eyes. It seemed like 3:00 am. She had so much to think. She had so much on her head that she had migraines these days. She sighed again and fell asleep.

"Good morning, babe" Jay kissed her cheek as she frowned to get up.

"I'm going to pee.." she whispered.

She came back up and saw Jay playing games on his phone. He wasn't always like this. He used to wait for her to come up and hug her. These days, all he seemed to do was look at his phone. He certainly changed, but Mila wasn't gonna tell him that.

She lied beside him and scanned through her phone. She looked at photos of them- at the beach, at the school where they first met, and the rivers, and all the fun adventures they had.

They had been dating for a year now and did everything together.

Jay's family lived in Australia, so he was alone here, and pretty much spent all his time with Mila and often spent the night at her house. And Mila, well, after her mom died, she was pretty much alone as well.

They always had dinner together, always went to the beach together, and always supported each other.

That was until Jay casually told her he's going back to Australia.

It broke her world, once more. She'd be left alone, not that she'd mind- since she was such an independent person.

But, it would be hard to start again without him. She was barely getting by, and she had him for comfort. But now he had plans to leave. Plans to start his future alone, and plans to be less caring of Mila once he left.

What Mila hated most was that, he didn't seem to care if Mila was hurt or not. That was the way of their relationship all the time. What mattered to him most was how Mila made him feel.

Perhaps because he grew up alone, he was less emotional, less caring, and more self-centered. What mattered most to him was only his good. Maybe that is why he seemed to think that leaving Mila is the best for them.

But Mila was a hopeless romantic. She dreamed of moving mountains for love, finding someone who would even die for her. Athough that wasn't the case for Jay. Everyone could see how lucky Jay was. But does Jay feel the same?

"Let's go out tonight, after work." Jay told Mila.

"Sure, any place you wanna go?" She asked.

Maybe the pub downtown will do, they always went there. The day passed by without much ado, they were both at work- and the air was chilly. Christmas was coming, and everyone was high on their hopes. Mila loved Christmas, she was always happier during the holidays.

"My boss wants me to bring you to our barbeque dinner tomorrow night.." Jay told her. "Well, sure, why not?" Mila answered. They drank some beer, and headed home.
