Thomas kissed me often after that first time. He also grabbed my butt a lot. I think he wanted to grab my boobs too since he was always staring at them but I guess butt grabbing isn’t as ‘vulgar’ as boob grabbing? I don’t know but honestly, I’m glad he didn’t try anything else. I didn’t actually want to go any further than that with him for some reason. It wasn’t that I was prude, I just didn’t want to. It also didn’t help that every single time we made out I was thinking of you.

That’s low I know, but I couldn’t help it. Your stupid cute face crept into my mind and I would imagine what it might be like to have your big hands on my butt instead of Thomas’. What your mouth might taste like…

“Did you hear something?” I said, pulling away from Thomas. We were sitting on my bed and his shirt was off. When had that happened? And why didn’t I notice?

“I didn’t hear anything.” He started to lean into me again. It was faint but I knew I heard a thud.

“Let me just go check,” I said standing up and adjusting my shorts.

Ellen was already in bed and she wouldn’t even be able to roll off so I knew she was okay.

“Aunt V? Are you in there?” I knocked on the bathroom door and heard a groan. “Are you okay? I’m coming in!” I turned the knob, thankful it wasn’t locked, and found Aunt Vilenna lying on the bathroom floor. “What happened? Are you having another one of your attacks?”

She nodded and clutched her gut then cried out in pain.

“I’ll call for an ambulance-“

“No, I don’t want to wait for them to get here. Ellen’s already in bed, you just take me.”

Thomas walked up behind me. “Do you know how to get to the hospital?”

I shook my head, trying to figure out what I was going to do.

“You drive Thomas,” Aunt Vilenna murmured.

He gave a quick nod before telling me to pull the car up as close to the house as I could and he would start helping her towards the door.

I kicked on the first pair of flip flops I could find and grabbed her keys off the hook before running out to the garage. The sun had set but it was still particularly hot outside. I reached to grab a pony tail off my wrist but there wasn’t one and my long, thick dark hair was already sticking to me.

Once I got the car pulled up Thomas had Aunt V at the door and was half helping her walk, half carrying her. She seemed to be in more pain this time than the last.

Thomas got us to the hospital pretty quickly and I jumped out to get a wheel chair as he helped her out of the car.

“Get her inside and I’ll go park the car,” he as he slid back in.

Two very young male doctors who looked like they could be brothers ran up to us and asked what was wrong then helped her onto a gurney. They pushed her away so fast that I couldn’t keep up through the crowd of people. It was like one second there was no one around then all of a sudden there were people moving in all directions, shoving me as they went. I saw a flash of dimples that I swore belonged to you but they were gone as quickly as they came.

A hand was on my shoulder, “You okay?” I jolted then spun around to see Thomas giving me a concerned expression.

“Yeah, I just didn’t see what way they went.”

“I’m sure they took her to the E.R., that’s this way.” He grabbed my hand to lead me through all the people and I searched in all directions for any sign of you but didn’t find one. Perhaps I imagined it, or maybe it was just someone else with ocean deep dimples…

“Ah, here she is.”

She was in a room with a strange looking elderly man whose eyebrows went up suggestively when I walked in. A young nurse with very tight scrubs was finishing up an IV with painkillers. I wasn’t surprised when I found Thomas’ eyes exploring her rear end as she bent over Aunt V to adjust her sheets. I pulled my hand away awkwardly.

She turned around and gave us a bright, fake smile. “Oh, hello! Are you her children?”

“Um, no…” I told her.

“Well, only immediate family is allowed in the room. There’s a waiting room at the end of the hall.” She said dismissing us.

“But she-“

“I’m alright Lacey,” Aunt Vilenna said. The old man’s eyes kept darting between the nurse and I. “They got me on pain meds now I’m fine.”

I felt annoyed suddenly and scoffed out of the room not caring whether Thomas was behind me or not. Between the people in the entryway shoving me around, this stupid hot nurse who was rude, the creepy old man, Thomas and Aunt V (though I wasn’t actually sure why I was irritated with them) and you invading my every thought I just wanted to be away from people for a bit. This was something I missed about Ohio (probably the only thing) was that sometimes it was nice to not have thousands of people all over all the time. Sydney just had SO MANY people.

I stopped at the nearest elevator and closed the doors before anyone could follow me. Unfortunately I wasn’t alone in the elevator and four kids were dishing out the perfect mix between whining, crying, and fighting. Were their parents doing anything to stop it? Of course not.

They had the fourth floor button pushed so I quickly tapped anything else and hit the seventh floor button. The short moment of quiet after they stepped out was blissful.

When I reached my floor I was grateful that it was a fairly empty floor. I had a feeling that the higher up I went the less active they were. There were a few patients roaming around, pushing IV carts with them and a few nurses here and there as well. One of them smiled at me kindly as I walked by.

I couldn’t believe how enormous this hospital was, every hallway I stormed down angrily just led to another but I was losing aggression with every step. It’s hard to walk madly through a hospital, especially in a calm area like this one.

I poked my head into a few of the rooms but most of the occupied beds were sleeping or watching TV. I supposed it was starting to get pretty late.

I saw a sign above an open door informing me that it was a waiting room and decided to sit in there for a bit. Just as I was walking in a body slammed into me, causing my minimized irritation to re-surface.

“Watch where you’re-“ I stopped when I saw you, staring back at me with a shocked expression.

“Sorry, I didn’t see you Lacey.” Goosebumps rose all over my arms when you said my name, I was sure you wouldn’t even remember. You looked nervous, but not in a “Oh it’s that cute girl,” kind of way, more like a “Oh shit it’s someone I know,” not that you really knew me, but still.

“No, uh it was my bad-“ you cut me off.

“Is Thomas with you?”

“Uh…Yeah be he’s-“

“I gotta go,” you said quickly before scooting me aside and gliding between me and the door frame and disappearing down the hall. I just stood there for a minute confused. What the hell just happened?
