This is MY Ice

Jimin's POV

The lights are flashing; I know that all of the cameras are on me. The cool air flows past me, chilling my sweating features. I am the best. We've come in first place for every tournament, and it's all been thanks to me. My partner, I think he said his name was Jun or something stupid like that, has done nothing. He slacks off, takes off Sundays and goes out with his friends on Fridays. He even attended the after party from last weeks tournament- completely unacceptable. I, on the other hand, live on the ice. There are no "days off" only bruised, bloodied feet, aching limbs, and stiff muscles. I am the ice.

I tried to be in a pair with a girl once, but I didn't like how beautiful it made her look, and how I was only there for the muscles, so I switched. Now I'm partnered each season with a new meat head that only knows how to lift me, throw me, drop me, and fumble around, messing everything up over and over again. No one is worth my time, no one is worth the energy I put into being the best. All my partners have to do is smile and sweat like they've done  the work, when really, it was all me. Completely useless.

Maybe one day I'll go into solo skating, but I don't get the same effect. I can't fly when I'm skating alone, even though in the end...it always feels that way...like I'm skating alone.

The last lift. Here we go.

I feel his hands around my waist as he lifts me into the air, spinning me around. My body is a mesmerizing statue, and no one can look away. He begins to lower me back to the ground when I feel his hand grab at my ass in a most unpleasant way.

We finish the routine, smiling our heads off, before we bow one last time and exit the ice. That bastard...he's never gonna skate again.

"That was amazing, you two." My coach, Fredrick, congratulates us as we make our way back to the kiss and cry. It's the place every skater goes to find out whether they've made it or whether they've failed. It determines everything, and for the enjoyment of the public, you're recorded the whole time.

"Oh shut up." I snap, looking directly in Jun's eyes. "What the hell was that out there?!"

"What are you talking about?" Jun asks, folding his arms.

"Wha!..." I'm at a loss for words. "Are you kidding me? That was a horrible performance!"

"We didn't mess up even once!" He shouts back at me.

"So all that matters is whether or not those stupid guys who tell everyone what to see, saw it?! Have a little dignity!"

"Ugh! I can't handle this right now!" He throws his hands in the air and strides away from me.

"Don't you dare walk away from me, Jun!" I scream at him, making him stop and turn around.

The other skaters and their coaches all look at us in annoyance but frankly, I couldn't care less.

"I don't want to hear it, Jimin! You've been a pain in my side all season, and I haven't done anything wrong so-"

"Nothing wrong?! Do you even know what profession you're in? This isn't some frozen lake in your pathetic town back in Korea! This is figure skating! This is survival of the fittest!-" I grab onto his arm, whispering close to his face; growling. "...there is never a day, when you do nothing wrong." I look at my partner to see a tear welling up in his eye. "Oh my!-" I turn to my coach in anger. "Look at him! He's crying! Fredrick, I tried. I tried again, and again and again, but until you finally give me a partner worth my time..." I look over and Jun, and shake my head. "I won't be skating." I turn away from the both of them, striding down the hallway as everyone parts their conversations and groups for me to walk past.
