Brendon, Patrick, Pete, Andy, and Joe had become the best of friends over the course of the semester. School was almost out for the year. Whit was delighted at the warmth. Patrick was devastated that she only had a matter of days left. Pete sat comforting both of them. She sat in Patrick's lap and Patrick was leaning up against Pete.
Brendon had made a pizza run, and are due back any minute. Brendon had to get something to eat as he and Whit were starving. She wanted pizza so that's what he got. As he made his way back to the house he thought about all the times him and Patrick would look after her when they younger. Four years ago everything was perfect. High school changes people. And so does the world. Whits parents used to be loving. Four years ago. So much, too much, has changed.
Patrick had decieded since they were both doing well in school that they could miss the last few days after the award ceramonies. Brendon and Pete were the only ones who couldnt miss. But they all agreed that Whit needed to be home. She didnt want it to happen in school. She wanted to by Patrick. Patrick wanted her to die on her terms. So they offten went in the wood and sit. Patrick didnt mind that he had to carry her every where.
The nights pizza and movie marathon was amazing. Whit was feeling a little better then normal so no one worried that that night would be it. Whit knew her time was close tho. She had accepted her fate long ago.
"Patrick?" She wispered so quietly it sounded like a mouse.
"Yes, sweetie?" Patrick took a seat on the bed careful not to sit on her.
"Thank you, If i die tonight, then ill die with a smile on my face." Patrick smiled softly and kissed her on the forehead.
"You dont have to thank me."
"Yes i do. You need to know how important you are. You are a hero. You have saved a life and you dont even know it." She closed eyes with a sigh and they extanged a quick goodnight. Patrick was left confused but accepted it.
That night while they were all asleep in their own homes. Patricks was a secane. Patrick was on the floor bawling. Whit was in on her way to the hospital.
