Chapter 1 ~1822 new orleans~
I look around my surroundings in a daze to find I am in a large patch of greenery, tall trees circling the area. I get up confused and scared, questions like "Who am I?" and "Where am I?" invading my young brain. I look around a few stray tears making their way down my already puffy cheeks and on to my tattered pink dress. I cling onto a dirty white bunny which seems to be the only remnant of my previous life, whatever that may have been. I start to wander off from the clearing into the trees with hope of finding some explanations as to what was happening. After hours of this I give up on looking and throw myself on the ground, beginning to sob even more frustrated and lost than I was before.
"You cannot be serious Nik." A feminine voice echos through the trees from a distance I cannot see. My ears perk up and a smile grows on my face at the possible sound of my isolation ending. I begin to run as fast as I could towards the voices without the slightest clue as to who they might belong to.
"Oh come on Bexs, don't be so stern it was merely a joke." A new voice speaks louder than before. I'm getting closer.
"Can we not go anywhere without an argument? Marcellus is more mature than you two." Another male voice speaks so clearly I am surprised I have not found the source yet.
Suddenly I crash into something sturdy and tall causing me to fall back launching my bunny far. I look up too find four figures looking down at me with different expressions on their faces. On the left side is a male looking at me with interest, not mean yet not settling either. The second is a blond female with a caring face who was standing between the two males. The third was another male with a smirk I couldn't decipher but made me feel uneasy. Behind the three is a boy around my age looking at me with sympathy and a kind smile.
"I don't think it's very polite to throw yourself at strangers." The blond man with a chilling smirk lectures me.
"Niklaus please can you not see she is scared." The blond woman scolds the man I suppose is called Niklaus, causing him to rolls his eyes and crosses his arms over his chest.
"See this is exactly what I was talking about! I wasn't going to hurt her sister; you may be shocked to learn I am not the monster you believe me to be." Niklaus continues to argue with the blond I figure is his sister.
"Can you not bicker and focus on the task at hand for two seconds. We don't know who this child is and we never will if you don't let her talk." The brunette man in a oddly fancy suit tells the two siblings.
"I agree with Elijah, now what is your name love." The woman tells the other two completely disregarding her brother and crouching to my height.
"I-i'm Vera?" I stammered at her question not sounding or feeling very sure. If I'm being honest it was just a name in the back of my mind, and I haven't the slightest clue if it is indeed Vera or not.
"You don't sound very sure about that, are you lying to us by any chance?" Niklaus questions me taking a step towards me in a slightly menacing manner admittedly making me even more nervous than before.
"No, I um I don't know, but I wouldn't lie if that was not what I believed I swear it. Just please help me." I beg conjuring as much courage as I could. I am terrified of what these strangers could do to me, but even more scared of what would happen to me if I don't take this chance.
The blond rolls her eyes and shifts her weight to the side, annoyed yet used to it."Can you not scare the wits out of the girl without at the very least learning her request." The sister tells her blond brother before turning to my young self "I apologize on my brothers behalf dear, my name is Rebekah, that is obviously Niklaus, this is my other brother Elijah and that back there is Marcellus. Now what is the matter."
I linger for a few seconds thinking about the question before ultimately deciding to be honest on the fact that I had no idea the answer to her question "I truly wish I could tell you. I do not know where I am, not who I am, I just awoke here lost with no memory of anything."
She stares at me surprised before noticeably coming to a conclusion "You shall come with us, you can even share a room with Marcellus here." Rebekah assured me filling me with newly found hole before turning to look at her family's stunned expressions.
"Rebekah you cannot be serious. We know nothing of her." Niklaus gasps at his his sister with a strong fiery look in his eyes, convinced he is in the right. Even at a young age I recognize him to be stubborn but do not say anything knowing it is my only choice to go with them. Rebekah much like her brother retaliates not dropping the manner until he gives in.
"We know she is lost and we can help. You cherish Marcel because you relate to him, now I have found my mini me and want to lead her on a better path than mine." Rebekah seems to have convinced Niklaus with the comparison and moves on to look at her other brother. "Elijah what do you think?"
"If she is no harm to the family and makes you happy how could I oppose." Elijah gives his sister a charming smile in which Rebekah gladly returns.
Rebekah turns to me her grin not faltering"In that case let me show you to your new home"
"You are in for a long ride." Niklaus mumbles sarcastically which Rebekah somehow hears and nudges him in playful scorning.
"Please listen to nothing he says darling, now I believe it is time to get you out of those rags into something more suitable for the exquisite girl that you are." Rebekah gives me one last smile before taking my hand and taking me to a enormous house at a supernatural speed.
