After Steve ordered them to prepare, the Avengers rushed off to get ready for battle, with the additions of the New Avengers; Robert, Noor, and Charlotte and the newest recruits Wanda, Pietro (no longer working with the bad guys) and Vision (quite literally a newborn). Despite their protests, the rest of the New Avengers were deemed too young and inexperienced to face the dangers Ultron presented.
"We're capable!" Reyna argued.
"You need us!" Percy added.
The rest of the kids chimed in on why they should fight, but after the Wakanda incident Peggy wouldn't risk their lives, and Steve knew this fight might be their last and they couldn't take them.
"Peg," Steve said, standing in the doorway. She waved him off. He waited.
Peggy pulled them aside before she left, placing a hand on Reyna's shoulder.
"The world needs you, and one day you'll be ready to defend it," Peggy promised the young superheroes. "And when that day comes, you'll be fighting right there along side us."
They were silently fuming, but Reyna sighed.
"Alright," she said. "The moment we're ready, we'll be there."
She smiled at their promise, and felt a small twinge in her heart.
Peggy was not a religious woman, but she sent a silent prayer that she and Steve would return to see the youths grow up.
"Coming, Rogers," she marched over to the soldier, meeting his eyes.
"Are you ready to save the world?" He said in an attempt to joke.
"Well, we've done it twice before, haven't we?" She smiled, reaching for his hand.
He took it and shook his head, before turning to face her again.
"An army in Europe lead by a someone who wants to wipe out wipe out humanity? It'll be just like the old days."
"It'll be nothing we can't handle," Peggy said softly, giving him a soft kiss on the cheek. "As long as we're together."
"Always," Steve smiled.
.....
As Peggy and Steve left the heroes-in-training, Tony was back at his computer. Now that J.A.R.V.I.S. was gone (well not gone just...different) he needed a new A.I. for the suit's system. He pulled out a flashdrive and loaded it onto the computer.
"Good evening, boss," A feminine, vaguely human voice spoke.
F.R.I.D.A.Y. was up and running.
.....
Meanwhile, Charlotte, Noor, Robert, Wanda and Pietro were getting ready. The twins didn't have any of their own gear, so they were rummaging through all of the old equipment.
"I can't believe you got the Mystery Twins on our side," Robert whispered as he fixed a rocket boot. "They're even more freaky up close."
"They came here all on their own," Charlotte replied. "Besides, you should be nice to them seeing as though your dad inadvertently killed their parents."
Robert halted his work, a screwdriver frozen in his hand. His mouth opened and closed without sound.
"Damn Charlotte," Noor said as she checked her plant pouches. "Harsh."
"But true," she stated. "They're also the reason I get to see you in badly colored hair dye."
"Oh yeah, I can't wait for that," Noor giggled before standing up to leave with Robert. "C'mon, let's get moving."
