Leaning back against the side of my van, I let my eyes follow the traffic as it passed me. More than a few of the people in my school passed by in their flashy cars, laughing at me. It was more than likely that they probably didn't even know I was in the same school as them.

Ignoring the taunting looks some of the girls sent me, I rested the back of my head against the window of the van and sighed in defeat.

Why did the van have to break down in one of the busiest roads in the city?

"Jewel, did your ride fail you?"

My head snapped back up and swivelled to the side. My eyes were met with a large SUV that was parked right behind my van.

Max's head was hanging out the window with a grin on her face, probably just as amused by the situation as everyone else on this busy road.

"No, not at all, I like parking on the curb of busy main roads and watching the traffic."

My sarcastic answer made her chuckle before she dropped back into her seat, out of my view.

Assuming she was going to drive off again, I focused my eyes on another BMW convertible that was stopped in the queue right in front of me. The bottle blonde turned her eyes towards me and a scowl graced her beautiful face. Her friend in the passenger seat followed her lead.

"See Maxine, that's what poor people drive." The blonde said mockingly.

Arching up one eyebrow, I lifted up my hand and extended my middle finger.

"At least I won't be swimming in my car when it starts to rain." I said innocently.

Both the girls gawked at me in shock before it slowly changed into rage. The queue started moving and they spun away, the tires squealing on the tar road.

My few seconds of amusement dropped away and I resumed to leaning against the van.

"You know, they could probably find some reason to sue you later on."

Glancing to my side, I saw a very amused Max standing there with her arms crossed over her chest.

"Probably, but I still wouldn't care." I shifted my gaze back to the rest of the cars passing us.

"Do you need a ride?"

I immediately shoved away from the van and picked up my backpack from where it was at my feet.

"Good idea, if I stay here any longer, I would probably be arrested for murder."

Not like that would be new.

Chuckling, Max shook her head and led me to the SUV that was still idling behind my van. It did not take me long to realize that it was her brother behind the steering wheel.

Max hoped into the passenger seat while I swiftly slid in behind her, beside one of the guys I had seen with her brother a couple of weeks ago. Beside that guy, was another one with blonde hair sticking up in all directions, his hazel eyes smiling at me.

"So, you are Jewel then?" Max's brother asked, turning around in his seat. "I'm Gavin, Max's brother."

I nodded mutely before turning my gaze to focus out the window.

"Where am I supposed to be heading?" He asked while turning back into his seat.

"Jefferson Drive number ninety nine." I muttered without shifting my gaze.

"Okay then, Jefferson Drive it is." He grumbled before the car started moving.

"Hey, have you called someone to tow the van yet?" Max asked, completely turning around in her seat to look at me. "We could stop by-"
