You take a deep breath and decide to go down.
"Follow me..." You breathily whisper and Cara just nods, floating behind you.
You take a step down and listen to every sound.
You've learned to be much more alert and assertive since you entered this damned place.
The only sounds are the beatings of your heart and your shallow breaths.
You take another step down, and then another, and finally, you find yourself on the landing.
Before you lies a room and in the middle of it on the floor, lies your friend.
They seem completely unharmed, and are passed out.
You ran up to them, full of joy and relief and check their heartbeat.
They're alive.
Oh thank God almighty!
You shake them awake and as soon as they open their eyes, you hug them tight.
"You're okay...you have no idea what I went through to get you, better be grateful, and you're never getting drunk again you hear me?!"
You ramble while tears of joy stream down your face. When you feel their arms gingerly wrap around you, you melt.
Finally.
No more talking houses, or creepy riddles, or bloody messages.
You're going home.
"Um..hi.." You hear Cara greet once you release your death grip from your friend.
Then you notice a strange reaction. They're eyes widen and they jump to their feet and up to Cara who seems to have the same reaction.
"Sister...?"
You hear a whisper and gasp.
You remember now how your friend had a younger sister and how she died in a haunted house.
It was her. It was Cara.
You were so glad you took her along.
The two reunited siblings hugged and cried.
"H-how?"
You just say silent letting them reunite properly.
Minutes tick by, and you watch them, happy for them.
"Hey..my soul..is finally at piece..thank you so much..I must go now..." Cara whispers and with one final hug and goodbye, her body fades into small ghostly pettals that float around until they fade.
Your friend turns to you and smiles a bright smile.
"Thank you...let's...let's go."
They outstretch their hand and you take it. You two run out of the basement but before you can reach the exit of the house, you hear her speak:
"You won I see. Good for you. I have one final warning for you both: 'Don't ever visit abandoned houses again. We all live.'"
And with that sentence said, the house falls silent and you run out, and onto the road.
You feel so blissed to be alive and free again, and you both whizz down the roads to your homes to get some much needed rest.
And you will heed the house's warning until the end of your days.
