Looking like hell itself had knocking him out, Dean growled at the group of woman just dying to be taken to the Head Masters function. And with him escorting them. He growled something irritated to their squealing of delight, the way they walked was even annoying his inner animal. He looked away, back out his large window.

His men ran around gathering the gifts for the daughter of the most powerful man known throughout the lands, while females giggled absentmindedly outside his office door. They seemed to grow in numbers, or their chatter was getting more bold. Either way Dean could feel his palms restricting. A low knock caught his attention before the even lower of a growl pursed through his lips. Dean swore if it was a female trying to bypass her wait, he’d show her just how cruel of a man he could become.

“Come in” He hissed daring the individual their time of reckoning. His beta poked his head in gulping slightly to the fear he knew well.

“Alpha, the carriage is ready whenever you are…sir”  Dean sighed heavily nodding.

“Right, very well” Waving a hand for the man to be gone. When the click of the door broke silence Dean sighed, it was true a car or truck was faster, but it would never make it over the rocky terrain. A carriage was slower by far, but more practical in the means of getting there without to much trouble.

Cracking his neck on both sides Dean groaned. Time to get this over with, he thought as he moved around hi desk and to the main door leading to those horrid woman. Opening his door it took mere seconds for the hall to fall silent, all eyes flowing onto his body turning his stomach into a vile mess. He let out a low warning of a growl when the leggy blond started to rise, her over power of whatever scent she had drowned herself in was burning his nose hairs.

A redhead off to the side caught his eye, and she didn’t smell of all that crap more then half the females here poured over their heads. Pointing at her Dean motioned for her to hurry up as he walked past the scorn off all eyes on the picked female. Heading down long corridors Dean didn’t bother to wait for the female who’s name he didn’t even want to know, never mind try to learn for the blessed evening. All he wanted to do was make his appearance, before exited swiftly and open that new bottle of Scotch he had tucked away for darker moments.

Laying on her butt Ember looked up, scattered parchments and books lay around her body as large eyes blinked at the being before her. Massive in size and weight he was, deep rich brown eyes softly blinked back at her he neared. Gulping the knot that somehow managed to lodge itself in her throat Ember coughed, fumbling to grip some books.

When the heavy muscled of a fuzzy brown leg drops to a knee Ember freezes, ever so carefully he begins picking up the books and parchment arranging them in a neat pile for her to manage.

“I am sorry I startled you” He said holding out the books to her. His voice was gentle yet strong, power behind every word shivered down Embers spine. Nodding softly he helped her up, that heavy leg made a scraping sound as his toe hit the wooden floor. Ember did her best not to stare, but it was so hard not to. Standing well over her head Ember had to take a step back just to get his full height into her view.

“Its alright, I just didn’t think anyone else was in here” she replied half coughing on her own air, which caused a small smile to form on his lips.

“I am Doupon” He said holding out a large hand. Ember looked at the size difference, she started to feel very small. Swallowing her fear she shifted the books around in her arms before shaking his hand. It dwarfed her own, making his palm nearly twice the size as her own. Surprisingly Doupon was very gentle with her, seeming to understand he could in fact squish her if unknowingly squeezed to tightly.

Smiling up at him Ember chuckled when he released her hand, it caused his heavy set brows to rise and fall with a wondrous look.

“So you’re a centaur?” she asked feeling slightly childish for asking the obvious. With a deep chuckle Doupon nodded, a heavy hoof dragging across the floor.

“I am, you must be Ember the Head Masters daughter” he lowered his body to get a better look at her, causing a rush of blood to push across her cheeks.

“I am” she said nodding softly as his larger eyes blinked in her vision. When he snorted Ember about jumped out of her skin, he laughed heavily rising back up.

“Your father lies my dear” he hummed smirking slightly. Ember’s brows knitted as her face hardened. She didn’t know her father very well, but she didn’t think him to be a liar.

“How so?” she asked holding down the urge to snap at the over sized horse man. Grinning wildly Doupon poked her nose gently before answering.

“He called you pretty, your far from it” Ember was ready to unleash hell till he kept going.

“You stunning to feast upon.” he said a light about words came out, yet they told no lies. Ember blushed harder.

“Oh, thank you” she whispered feeling foolish for thinking he’d be some kind of monster. He chuckled more.

Helping her with all the reading material Doupon began asking her questions, mostly what it was like to be home and how she faired so far. Soon the conversation went to why she had so many books on Mates and Souls, Ember blushed sinking lower in her chair. She didn’t know how to tell Doupon that her other half had practically spit in her face upon meeting her. Apparently she didn’t have to.

“Your looking for a way to remove the tie, are you not?” he asked with a heavy sign. Ember nodded, her refusal to meet his eyes clear enough.

It would have seemed Doupon was the library’s keeper, he knew everything there was about the books that were stashed away from prying eyes. He talked to her about what to do, and how to make the connection less painful once its been removed. Although he couldn’t promise it wouldn’t kill her, Doupon did give her a lot of valuable information in such a short time.

Ember had been so in tune with her reading that she’d not noticed Daniel walk in, before she could close the book he gasped from over her shoulder.

“Ember? What…why are you reading such a book?” She panicked and quickly slammed it closed, making a ring of thousand year old dust poof outwards.

“I…why are you back so soon?” She sent him a pointed look, hoping to defuse the topic and make him confused. It had worked many times before.

He scowled at her causing an undertaking of her bottom lip, blushing slightly Ember held the book tightly to her chest. She didn’t like to see him upset, but she didn’t want him to tell her father.
