Like usual the house was filled with lively chatter as mother inspected each of her children to make sure they weren't harmed. Jaxon's hands fluttering through the air as he recounted his tales of his first hunt, eyes filled with past excitement. His voice becoming louder with each word.
Mother's proud grin never leaving her lips, all teeth as her hands never left her hips. Her motherly aura being excreted from every fiber of her being and leaking out into the room. Her eyes joyous at seeing one of her children happy. "Sounds like you have had quite the adventure. Why don't you take these to your father and then you can finish regaling me with your experiences."
That shut Jaxon up quickly, you could hear the resounding click of his teeth from him stopping mid story. Instead of looking crestfallen, he resembled a puppy that would have been wagging his tail as he furiously nodded his head. Picking up his hunting sack he took off to where father might be.
Sensing my gaze on her form mother turned to me, a gentle smile on her face as her eyes darted along my body. Searching for nonexistent wounds. Those she wouldn't find, the only thing she would find would be my anxious mind and feelings a bit hurt from my older brother's vocal abuse. A mother's instinct already kicking in as she opened her arms. With a sigh full of contentment I melted within her strong yet gentle embrace. My head nestled underneath her jaw as she calmly ran her fingers through my hair. "So do you happen to know what is causing your brothers bad mood? His mood I even more foul than normal."
Unconsciously my spine stiffened in her embrace, air entering my lungs at a quicker pace. Mother pulled back, her usual amused smile making its appearance. No one quite got onto Vex's overprotective nerves like me. It was a common occurrence for us to argue than Vex to storm off only to complain to mother about my behavior. Mother usually finds the whole ordeal rather funny. "He came storming raving about a dragon and then took off to his room. You could practically see the steam coming out from his ears." Mother chuckled.
Rubbing my neck I gave her a sheepish grin, "Ehhhh, yeah his horrendous mood is technically all my fault as per usual. See we actually got into some trouble while going through one of the towns on the way home, nothing we couldn't deal with." She quirked an eyebrow as if to say, that's it? "Aaand I picked up a stray dragon that happened to save my life and now she seems rather attached to me. That's it, Goodnight!" I finish in a rush, eager to escape.
I almost made it to the stairs when mother broke out of her frozen state, calling out in a stern tone that made the most reckless of men pause and listen, "Halt right there young lady! Not another step. What do you mean that a dragon saved you and then attached itself to you?"
"It will be easier to show you than tell you." Taking her hand I lead her outside to where Sage lay waiting.
If mother was expecting that day it definitely wasn't a full grown dragon laying in our yard as calmly as a kitten. "Sena, why is there a dragon in our yard?" Mother didn't seem upset, just curious. Vex is going to become even more furious to know that having a draegon here didn't even get a rise out of her.
Sage pushed her snout closer to us, taking in our scents or at least the scent of my mother. Lifting up a hand I brushed the tip of her snout with the back of my hand. "I came across Sage while in the mountains, she startled the deer I was hunting. After yelling at her I left her high in the mountains, on my way back down she caught up to me. Even dropping a few deer as a peace offering.
She was injured by another draegon, and I took care of her wounds. She ended up tagging along until I met up with my brothers. It wasn't until we ran into trouble that she came to my rescue. Trouble fond us in the form of a hoard of other draegons attacking the town we were passing through. We sent Jaxon off and I tried to help the people by fighting off the hoard. I became cornered and Sage here dropped in to fight off the other draegon. Soon the hoard was fought off. Vex threw a fight and Sage has hardly left my side since. Vex threw another fit and took off, leaving us in the dust."
