It was indeed a fortnight by the time the air around the Mountain began to feel tense. I woke up from a light sleep, feeling a warmth leaning closer to my back my eyes shoot open. Turning my head a bit to make eye contact with who was peering at me.
Sage leaned closer so the scales of her chest brushed my back. Her eyes shifting over my form to make sure I was ok before shooting up to search the surrounding area. Her stance over me oozing protectiveness.
The sound of other draegons lowly growling or whimpering depending on the age. Each tense as they tasted the heavy emotion in the air in their own ways. Some lifted their nose into the air, others flicked out a tongue to taste the air.
I rubbed at my eyes, clearing away the sleep. "Sage, what's going on?" Covering my mouth as I yawned. Still waking up, and shaking off the remnants of sleep.
The beginnings of a growl starting within her chest, "They are almost here."
Sitting up as much as I was allowed with Sage hovering over me, "The other humans?" Wide awake instantly. She hummed as an answer. "How much longer?" Moving out from under her chest, place my boots on my feet and throwing my hair up in a sloppy bun.
Her eyes were pinned in the far off in the distance, "Half hour at most." Her head jerked up, "and the Matriarch is calling us to gather." Her tone filled with a silent request.
"Of course." Grabbing up my bow and the new arrows I managed to fashion of decent quality with the scales scattered around. Climbing up onto her back.
The Matriarch nodded in greeting to us, as she watched us descend from the sky. We returned the greeting. "Virago Nemophilist, you would honor me by translating." Her gaze moving to the tree line.
"Of course, Matriarch. I would be honored to do so." Bowing.
"Here they come." Sage whispered through the bond.
The Draegul clan waiting behind their Matriarch with baited breath and anticipation. All of us unconsciously straightening up to appear bigger. Sage stepping closer to my side.
The noise level of the forest increasing as the group moved closer. Eventually emerging from the undergrowth lead by the Prince and young male draegon, who cooed to Sage as their gazes met.
Sage turned her head away lifting her lip showing her teeth and discontent. The male looked hurt at the rejection, again. The group coming to a standstill, mouths dropping open at the sight before their eyes. Kioka stepped forward followed by the male draegon seemingly stuck to his side. Playfully he bowed before us, "As you have requested First Draegon Rider, Indrasena. I have brought the recruits." Gasps and mumbling echoing through the shocked group. Kioka's eyes on my face, expecting me to step forward.
Clearing my throat I step forward with Sage and the Matriarch. "Hello. My name is Indrasena. First bonded with a draegon, Rider of Sage. Titled Virago Nemophilist by the Draegul Matriarch, who has given me the honor of speaking for her." The matriarch stepped forward a couple of steps, slightly spreading out her wings. Her words echoing through my mind and my voice rang out across the near silent atmosphere. "Greetings, future riders. We thank you for joining the effort in the war to put a stop to the Draegon Vesper. Only together do we stand a chance at stopping Vesper. While you are here there is a truce among our two species. You are not to harm us and we will not harm you as you will be under our protection. Train well, future bonded. I leave you in Virago Nemophilist's capable hands." The Matriarch nodded to me, and I returned a sign of respect, then she took off for the Hallelujah arc. Many of the draegons following, others more curious about the humans.
