Turning my stare to a mirror on the wall, I am met with eyes that are glowing a vibrant green, taking on a slightly reptilian look. My now green eyes fading into my regular color as I calmed, my connection to Sage lengthening. Touching the skin by my eyes I realize I had been looking through Sage's eyes unconsciously while I slept. It wasn't a dream!

Struggling to sit up I toss off my covers. Vex curled his lips, continuing to stare acculingly at my fading green eyes, "The monster is taking Sena over! Just look at her eyes." His fists clinched by his sides.

"Sage is not monster, Vex" I growl at my sibling. My voice deeper and scratchier than usual, a mix from sleep and the mental melding with Sage. My vision still sharp though quickly fading. Eyes widening again as I remembered the dream of crashing to earth. Sage!

Struggling out of bed I push past my brothers, running as best as I could heading for the wounded draegon that lay outside. My family following after as I hear their footsteps.

Broken trees led me to where Sage lay, crumpled, bloody and broken. Her breathing shallow as she struggled to fill her lungs with air. My heart broke at the sight before me. Such a magnificent creature and my friend seriously injured.

Vex with his weapon took aim at Sage's vulnerable form, hoping to finish her off and be done with it. Angry at my stupid brother I move in front of his arrow. He would have to go through me to get to her. "Stand aside, sister. I will finish off that monster."

"You will do no such thing, Vex. Not while I am alive." Touching her head, I see her eyes flicker as she seemed to be fighting for consciousness. "Besides she saved the village from another draegon. Defending us while we slept."

Mother stepped in before Vex could start his squabbling, "That is enough bickering for tonight. Vex put away that weapon, and leave the draegon be." Vex appeared scandalized by mother, flushing pink as he stormed off to the house. "Now let's get you both looked at. I believe you reopened your wounds from earlier." My attention was then diverted to my blood soaked bandages.

My sisters came back with the medical supplies, Drina unwrapped my bandages as mother and my younger sibling cleaned Sage's wounds as best as they could. To keep Sage calm I stroked her muzzle while quietly whispering to her as she regained consciousness.

Drina made a noise in her throat, one of surprise. "How can this be? Your wounds look weeks old instead of a day. The skin on your legs has been shredded, now they look only scratched." Both of us mystified.

Sage's emerald eyes hooked on my healed wounds, hummed nuzzling my hand that stroked her nose. "Must have been magic." Shrugging as I smiled.

Once they finished treating our wounds they retreated back to the house. Leaving me alone with Sage, as I insisted that I would stay with her through the night. Sage had rested her head upon my lap, purring as I stroked her head, careful so not to cut my fingers on her scales. "Out of all the people in the world you chose me. Why? Why did you pick me? I don't think I am the right person for the job, Sage." The words whispered in the silence of the night.

My thoughts were then tugged in a certain direction, one that whispered bravery. Willingness to so what's right in spite of others thoughts and personal opinion. Spared life twice. Her feelings of not wanting anyone else but me, made a warm feeling within my chest grow.

Sage felt as though no one else would do but me. It wasn't just a random whim, she actually chose me for a reason. Even though I think she chose the wrong person.

Tapping her nose I made my decision. "I still think you chose the wrong person, but I will respect your decision. I don't know if I will be able to help. Though I am willing to try, I will go with you to meet with your council. However I have no idea where to start with convincing others to join the cause." Gratitude spilled over to my side of the connection, Sage humming her thanks. "We should probably head out as soon as possible. Stay here and, I'll go grab my things."
