The Promotion

It was Monday morning and Kathy was headed to work. She was so excited, her boss wanted to see her when she got there. Getting out of her car she walks to her boss' office. Knocking on the door she hears her boss say come in. Opening the door she smiles at her boss.

"Good morning Mrs. Whitney," she says.

Her boss looks up and says, "Well good morning. So I have a lot to talk to you about."

Closing the door, she sits in the chair across from her boss. Her boss tells her how the bride's father had called her Saturday night. He went on and on about how his little girl loved the set up. He even said that they wanted the planner to plan all their events from now on. After saying that Whitney looked her dead in the eyes. Kathy could feel her hands sweating.

"Do you think you can handle that," her boss asks.

Nodding her head, "yes ma'am, I can do it."
Her boss smiles at her, "then you know what this mean right?"
Kathy looks at her boss, "yes ma'am."

"Then welcome to being my partner Ms. McLynn," she says standing to shake Kathy's hand.

Kathy grabs her boss' hand and shakes it firmly. Smiling at her boss she grabs her bag and excuses herself. She wants to squeal with excitement as she heads to her office.

Sitting at her desk she digs her phone out. She sends a quick text to Nate and Lauren about her promotion. She gets a quick reply from Lauren saying congratulations and she is so happy for her. Kathy places her phone beside her paper work. As she reads over the next event she has to work on her phone starts playing One Call Away by Charlie Puth. She picks it up and sees it is Nate.

Answering the phone she says, "hey."

"Hey, congratulations on the promotion," he says. She can hear the grin on his face.

"Thank you! Are you busy," she asks.

Hearing a shout from the other side of the phone, "Nah, just some guys at the firehouse acting stupid. So would you like to have dinner to celebrate tonight?"

Surprised by his offer she says, "uh, yeah sure. Where would you like to go?"

"Not telling. I will stop by and pick you up at seven tonight. Be ready. Oh and dress nice," he says.

Smiling she says, "Oaky, I will see you tonight then."

After they say bye they hang up. The rest of the day Kathy can only think of how happy she is. She was so happy about the promotion. Then to top it off her new boyfriend is taking her out to celebrate. It felt nice calling Nate her boyfriend.
