Chapter Six

Wally was fuming. She pretended to act nice only to get something that she wanted. And she made a fool out of him in the process. He was kicking himself on believing her in the first place. He should have known whatever came out of her mouth was bound to be a lie.

He should have known better than to trust Artemis.

She just made him so frustrated that it was hard to think properly. Artemis with her stupid blonde hair and perfect face. He wanted to get back at her for humiliating him in front of Megan. They would have made such a nice couple, they were both charming redheads with outgoing personalities. But of course Artemis had to ruin that.

Why would she even ask him for a favor if she knew she was tricking him? Why act so desperate if she was sending him off towards embarrassment?

He remembered going up to Megan feeling confident and at ease. He strode up to Megan, in front of the cheerleading team (or most of them at least). The memory now etched in the back of his mind.

"Hey Megaclious." He called her with a flirtatious grin on his face.

"Wally!" She smiled at him. "Do you need something?" She asked him politely.

"Just one thing from you." He paused and sent a wink in her direction. "A date."

She didn't say anything and looked surprised for a second. When she was silent for more than a minute, Wally began to explain any further.

"I heard from a little birdie that you've been keeping an eye on me so I'm letting you know I've had my eye on you as well. Let's face the facts, you're hot and I'm adorable, we'll make an amazing couple so let's go out together."

He was expecting her to say yes almost immediately

He was expecting her to say yes almost immediately. He didn't anticipate the long awkward silence that followed, making him wonder what he said that was wrong. That line worked on a bunch of other girls, so it couldn't be that. Wally doubted it was his hair because it was always styled to perfection. His breath was fine, so it couldn't possibly be him.

"Is there something wrong?" Wally asked getting nervous with each passing silent minute. He laughed apprehensively scratching the back of his head.

"There's nothing wrong." She finally said putting on a small smile. "I would like to go out with you, we could invite the rest of the group and go bowling or something." The rest of the cheerleaders all visibly cringed. She just rejected him and sent him into the friend-zone, and there was sugar-coating it in subtly, it was all out in the open.

Wally coughed, trying to distract from his flushed cheeks. "I see." Not knowing what to do next he tried to get away from the situation before his face ended up matching his hair. "I'll just go then."

She tried letting him down gently but it only ended up stinging even more.

"I'm sorry Wally."
