Chapter Forty Three

Bonus Chapter Three

"Wally get your butt over here!" Artemis shouted. She would be amazed if he actually heard her over the loud cries of a screaming baby. Correction, make that two wailing babies.

"I'm busy!" Wally screamed back, only adding to their noise problem.

Artemis walked over to the living room, where Wally was trying to change his daughters dirty diaper. "You are the worst husband ever." She glared at him whilst rocking their son in her arms to try and calm him down.

"This is more complicated than I thought." Wally replied, having trouble closing the diaper.

"Fine, let's switch babies." She walked over to him and handed him their little bundle of screaming joy and she bend down to change the diaper.

"Who knew having twins would be exhausting?" He sighed, his voice expressing just how exhausted he was as he made funny faces to make his child laugh.

"Artemis, why don't you sleep for a few hours and I'll watch over the monsters." He offered.

"Are you sure?" She asked tentatively.

"Artemis, you've slept less than 10 hours in a week, the same week that you gave birth. I can handle them for a few hours while you catch up on some well-deserved sleep."

"You've convinced me." She held Iris and handed her to Wally who had a baby in each arm. She leaned forward and kissed his cheek. "You are the best husband ever."

"Don't speak too soon, I will wake you up in exactly 8 hours." Wally told her. Artemis nodded, waving him off dismissively and fighting back a yawn all at the same time. She strode off to their bedroom and was out like a light in a less than a minute.

Wally turned his attention to the tiny humans in his arms. He set them down in their crib after they were properly swaddled.

Artemis gave birth to the twins earlier that week, and she was in labor for 36 hours. They were shocked during the sonogram to discover that they were having twins, but it was a happy surprise. Artemis was exhausted, drained of all energy after being in labor for over a day, but seeing her two children in her arms for the first time brought tears to her eyes and a smile to her face. Holding a twin in each arm was the most magical moment in Wally's life, he was finally a father.

Iris was named after Wally's aunt and Artemis in love with the name Jai after finding it in a baby name book.

They had the kids home for a few days now, and while the thought of being parents and caring for someone so dependant on you scared the daylights out of them, they adjusted pretty well. The nurses at the hospital taught them how to hold both babies at once, and tips on handling both babies at the same time.

The couple also had plenty of help from their family and friends who reached out and offered to help. It was amazing, but they couldn't rely on them every second of the day. And they've actually gotten into the hang of it pretty quickly.

Wally heated up some milk and placed his children on his lap so he could feed both of them at the same time. Their little hands tried to hold onto the bottles, and it was a reminder of just how small and cute they were.

As they hungrily drank from their bottles, Wally began to tell them a story.

"I'm going to tell you how mommy and daddy met." He knew they weren't going to remember any of it, but there would be plenty of time in the future for him to tell the same story over and over again.

"Daddy moved to Gotham City and went to school with Mommy. She hated me, so much that it's actually funny. I tried getting her attention she was so independent and heartstrong and amazing that I liked her instantly. She grew on me, and I grew on her. Eventually we would spend time together without her wanting to hit me." He laughed at the memory.
