Chapter Thirty Two

"I still don't understand why you had to come." Artemis mumbled grumpily. She was frowning at Wally who wormed his way into her plans. He knew she found him annoying and he used it to his advantage, wearing her down until she finally agreed so she could stop hearing his voice.

She had enough going on at the moment without him breathing on her neck.

It might seem strange that Artemis would see her father in jail, but it wasn't a social call. She hated him, that much hasn't changed. However, she still had a lot of unanswered questions and unfortunately he was the only way to get them. She couldn't get through the rest of her life without knowing these answers. Artemis needed closure, and she didn't care what stood in her way, she was going to get it.

"Because I wanted to come." Wally reminded her cheekily. In a more serious tone he said, "Not to mention that I didn't want you to be alone when you face your dad." That did not sit well with her.

She turned around angrily and pointed a finger at his chest. "Listen here Wallace, I don't need you here to look after me like some kind of savior. I can handle myself on my own, and in case you forgot it was me who got him last time, not you, and not even the ****ing GCPD!"

All of her rage, and anger came pouring out at once. She was just so infuriated of the pity, and people making her feel so insignificant and helpless, it was driving her insane. Wally's comment was just a breaking point.

"Hey, hey, I'm sorry." Wally said cautiously taking a step towards her. "I didn't mean that you can't defend yourself, you are the strongest person I know." That warmed her heart a little bit. "I worry about you Artemis, more than I should."

"Why?"

He looked nervous and cleared his throat. "You're my best friend Artemis, and this may be one of the things that sound better in my head but I want to put you in a protective bubble and shelter you from harm if that makes any sense."

It was a weird analogy but she caught on quickly. "I understand." She told him, to which he looked shocked. "And Wally, it sounded just fine out loud."

When they actually got to the police station, Artemis stood her ground. "I'm going in on my own." She told him, an eyebrow raised daring him to challenge her. She was a force to be reckoned with.

"Good luck." He nodded. "I'll be waiting for you right here." He told her softly.

In a spur of the moment, she wrapped her arms around him for a hug. "Thanks Wally." While she was angry at him in the beginning and thought he was being a jack***, he was just looking out for it. It was admirable and sweet, but slightly unnecessary, she could have done this on her own.

Artemis seemed to notice that she was affectionate with Wally on a spur of the moment thing. She kissed his cheek before walking into her apartment with her abusive father. It was the start of a recurring theme and she was utterly confused about it, yet did not have the time to think about it.

For now she was going to get her well-deserved answers, everything else could wait.

"It'll just be a moment." An officer informed Artemis before leaving the interrogation room. Her father was still in a holding cell and awaiting transport to a prison later that week. The police officers were just as confused as Wally was when she walked up to the counter and asked to see her father.

"Relation?"

"Daughter." She admitted begrudgingly. Apparently the story of her father's arrest made its way around the station.
