"Is it really safe to let Katelyn be alone at home ?" I muttered , Nate was busy finding his routes and lanes for hours , I start to suspect if he's lost.
"She's almost 17 , she's fine." Nate was sure of it , unless he was a big idiot who forgot his sister's age.
"Almost you say." I peaked at him , from this angle I could see that he actually looks good in anything , any position , any where , any corner , any weather to be precise.
"We're here , do you have any metallic equipments on you ?" Nate asked me , he turned around , facing me , whilst I could only see the sign of a Wood Carver's shop tilt up high in the little building.
I buffled , "Metallic equipments ? Where are we ? Some knight tale in old ages ?" I could see he was serious. I parted with my metal made butterfly pin in my hair , I held it and let him check on it.
"This'll do." He smiled , my heart raced , he grabbed the butterfly pin from my hand as he opened the shop door , I still felt the trace of his touch on my hand , even if it wasn't on purpose , I was thinking too much , too far , too deep.
I heard a wee tinkle bell rung when Nate swing open the shop door , it's a common thing to hear when you enter random shops around the town.
"Hello , searching for cheap wood carvings ? We have all sorts of carvings." The shop owner was a middle aged man reaching his fourties , he had a smoke in his mouth , looks he was enjoying the smoke when we interrupted. He went around the wooden counter and came to Nate.
"The usual , do your thing old man." Nate suddenly sounded very different , his voice and tone as if he was going to rip of a man's rib and toss it on the ground , it sounded masculine and bad ass , yeah that's the word , bad ass. He threw my bitterly pin straight on the counter , the shop owner looked at him for a moment , I thought he was going to kick us out of his shop.
"As sharp as always the Bryson sibling ?" The shop owner walked back in his counter and received the pin , he looked at it , it was metal. He spoke :" Listen , I don't do this thing anymore kid , if you want some bothering talk of the town news , there's one in the trash can nearby."
I thought he was serious , but when he laughed , I knew it was a fraud. Nate was frigid , he glared at the shop owner. "It's metal , your favourite." He emphasized the last word , that has successfully caught the shop owner's attention.
"Fine this one last time !" The shop owner exclaimed as he slammed my pin and his hands along on the counter. Then he sat down on his wooden rock chair , he crossed his fingers together and asked :" What do you want to know kid ?"
At first , Nate looked at me now. I blinked confusingly , then I got it , I went closer to the counter , the ship owner looked very abusive , his left cheekbone had a scar on it , he was wearing a straw hat , his eyes were wry.
"Odette Astnar , she died ten years ago." I stammered.
"Here ?" The shop owner asked me , I nodded , he said :" Right back at ya..." Slowly he reached for one of his drawers under his counter and fumbled through some old looking files and papers.
He had took his time to search for a while , I took my time to peak at Nate again , this time he saw me , he spotted me , he saw the curiosity in me and he just shot an eye at the shop owner , virtually saying that I should wait for what he is finding. I turn my attention back on where it should be after that short eye contact.
"Found it , " the shop owner got up , I heard his ribs break a little , I hope it's not a serious issue , he said while he place a brownish file on the counter , his eyes twinkled.
My eyes darted for Nate's , I said :" I thought you said there were no police departments , death records and laws here ?"
Nate smirked , " This old fellow's got his ways , I don't doubt I'm wrong about what I said earlier."
"Want it or not ?" The shop owner said.
"Yes please." I reach my hand to receive the brownish file , involving my mother. I gulped as I opened it , wishing to see what I hoped for.
Nate payed close attention to the file she was looking at , he was behind her , the shop owner was looking weary and relieve.
