It got awkward very quickly. We didn't talk much that night and I wasn't hungry so I stayed out of the kitchen. I slept in my room like a baby, not remembering how long I was tossing around that night. Was I even tossing?

In the morning it was also awkward. I got to the kitchen and sat on the chair subconsciously. He looked at me as in to ask a question that I didn't want to answer. I swat his gaze away and just rubbed my eyes.

"How'd you sleep, Ethan?" Chris asked, very pleased with himself

"Oh, like on a cloud." I joked, not sure how he'd respond.

To my surprise, he laughed. Not a horrible laugh too, but a good laugh. A cute laugh I'd like to hear all the time. But I didn't want him to know that.

"What's so funny?" I scowl.

"I can't explain to you your own joke, man.."

I smiled under my arms where he couldn't see. I liked how warm he's gotten to me. Should I cooperate and do the same??

"Don't forget I have good ears," I heard this and squirmed.

"Could you zone out of my thoughts for a moment?"

"But they've gotten interesting! I was about to find out if you'd warm up to me." He's cheeky. I like that.

It'd been about a week of sleeping and eating in Chris's apartment and, it was hard to say but, I was getting tired of doing nothing all day. I thought he was thinking the same thing because he was acting like I was depressed. He held me the mornings he didn't have to go to work. He also did things like make breakfast and get me things. He seemed so sweet and gentle and to be honest I thought he was a good angel.

This morning in particular I ask, "Will I be able to find a job here? I don't think I can have my old job back but I think I could find a job where I'm used to."

He looked at me a little shocked but then slowly calmed his expression, "You probably can. Do you do any heavy work or just hands-on jobs?"

"I'm a writer and an illustrator in movies and shows. The almost always fail though,.."

He smiled softly and reassuringly, "You can find something here to do. Maybe become an apprentice? Find some people like you then find a job like theirs?" I could tell he was trying to help, and he was, which cooled me down.

"Yeah-Yeah, yeah that sounds awesome."I had to sound optimistic to trick myself into believing it. Because trying to believe it will only get me so far. So I've got a mission.
