Darkness surrounded me everywhere. It felt like I was drowning with no sense of control. Is this was death is like?

I was worried sick about (f/n). I should not have had her leave my sight. The doctors said she should be fine but haven't let anyone see her.
"Commander Erwin?"
"Yes."
"Did you know miss (l/n) has many scars on her thighs that we induced must be self inflicted?"
"No I did not."
"Well, she's fine to see now. She should be awake."
"Thank you."
Self harm? Is she depressed? Who else knows? I couldn't believe what I heard. She didn't seem like that type of person. I rushed to her room to see her.
"C-commander!" She tried to salute.
I rushed over and wrapped her in a death gripping hug.
"No need for formalities. Call me Erwin."
"O-okay Erwin."
"Now. Why did you do this to yourself?"
"Why do you care?"
"Because I care about you. A lot. I wish I should've told you before. I just thought it wouldn't have been appropriate. But I don't care anymore."
As soon as I finished my sentence I crashed my lips onto hers. I could tell she was startled but but finally kissed back.
-one month later-
Things for me have gotten a ton better. My depressing thoughts were pretty much gone. And the main reason for that was Erwin. He was the most amazing man I had ever met and I was very thankful for that.
