Chapter Two: Blue

"What are you?"

It sounded as though he'd been asking for hours. He flitted--nearly dancing about the flat.

"What. ARE. You."

Two more steps. His voice was almost childlike--almost soothing.

"What..."

The bathroom door swung open. Then the cupboard & I was blinded by blue. I squinted, motionless until the man behind the blue shut it off, brow fully furrowed.

"What?"

I was still hugging my knees when he leaned in to examine me. The blue thing was switched back on, & I flinched.

Hands up, he took a step back.

"Okay. Okay....okay. Yes. Right. Human?" he questioned.

Did it look like I was made of metal....?

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Ah, yes. Answering one question with another.  Definitely human." He spun & left the room, shouting back to me.

"Where, then? Where is it?"

"Who are you?"

"There you go again.  There's something... strange here. Where is it?" The blue thing buzzed louder & louder as he turned to face me again. Climbing out from the cupboard, my head knocked the underside of the wash basin.

"Are you strange?" he asked.

"What kind of a question is that?!"

What kind of a man breaks into someone's apartment in the middle of a space invasion to accuse a girl of being strange?

He stared at me again & switched the blue thing off.

"...Come with me." He grabbed my hand & started walking. At nearly a foot taller than me, he dragged me through the whole of our flat.

Just as a cry for help began to crawl clumsily from my lips,  we reached the hallway & I saw it for the very first time:
