The day the Daleks invaded alongside big metal men was only the beginning of Earth's widespread interaction with the rest of the universe.

Doomsday, as people seem to like to call it, was an attack unlike anything the world had ever seen before. We were defenseless...or so we thought.

Though some would have you believe that we humans spontaneously overthrew the Metal Army, a few of us know the truth. The Doctor was there that day, in more forms than one.

Well, this is where the story gets a little sketchy...

Actually, maybe it's just me.

Whatever--I'll let you decide:

I hid in the cupboard below the sink. I know: how would an advanced race of aliens hell-bent on destroying every creature lesser than itself ever find a heavy-breathing 17-year-old human girl who had stuffed all of her awkwardness into a cubic meter of space in her bathroom?

Believe me, I thought the same thing when I heard the door to our flat creak open. Actually, for a second the optimist in me hoped it was Mum, come to save me from the scary metal men. But alas, she was still an hour away from Cardiff (coincidentally also hiding in a cupboard) with her boyfriend where she met him every weekend with their baby.

The electronic buzzing noise coming from the hallway told me that, unless she had recently acquired a lightsaber, it was in fact not my mother who'd just tiptoed across the livingroom. I held my breath as the light footsteps and buzzing grew closer, ready to hear that high pitched "EXTERMINATE!" at any momen--wait. Footsteps? Granted, I was not the Dalek expert then  that I am now, but no Dalek I'd ever seen had an semblence of a foot.

And from what I knew of the Cybermen, I can't think how they'd be capable of "tip-toeing." So, who had broken into my mom's flat in the middle of a space invasion?
