"I told you to go!" I yelled.
"Go?!...ohhh. Is that what this meant?" he mimiced the gesture I'd made earlied, "It seemed more like 'Make some tea. It's ...in the cupboard ...over the sink?'"
I glared. "Don't you have some sort of...Time Lordy hangover remedy or something?"
"Where did you hear that name?" he squinted, suddenly very serious.
"You..told me? Yesterday? --Well, this morning."
"What is yesterday?"
"My birthday."
"And I was here....On purpose?"
There certainly was a lot of glaring going on that morning. "Is that so hard to fathom?!"
"What was it? Cybermen again? The Daleks?"
"Weeeellll," I grinned & proceeded in telling him the story that I'd tell a million times over, eventually.
"Hm," he finally said after a moment of silence. And that was it. We didn't speak as we carried Sam to my bed, or while we cleaned the spot of vomit from the floor, or while we drank tea. He just stared off into oblivion, brow furrowed in almost hopeless concentration.
I watched the steam float up from my teacup & thought about what the Doctor's future self had said this morning.
"See, time is more of a ball of--well actually it's like a wisp of smoke." He jumped atop a boulder & waved his hand through the fog that hung overhead.
"You've got all these particles so close together, like points in time. And they all come together to form this beautiful little...cloud of existence, " he mused.
The steam from my tea dissolved in an instant & was gone. When I looked up, the Doctor was staring at me just as intently as he'd been staring at the air before. "You never ask what I'm thinking," he said flatly. I didn't exactly understand where this was going.
"No...I don't. So?"
"So, they usually do that."
"Who are 'they'?"
"My...companions."
And without any further ado, I was officially a companion of the Doctor.
We went on many adventures and had a lot of fun & it was very dangerous. The End.
