Tracey arranged herself on her bed. She was sitting in her bed in the girls' room reading a book. Today had been a very rough day at the orphanage. Mrs.Stoat had thrown away her mother's pretty bracelet that she had treasured the past 10 years. Thinking about it, Tracey wondered if she would ever get to see her parents again.

"Probably not," she thought, wiping the simmering tears from her eyes.

Pretending not to notice her best friend Zoey standing at the door, Tracey faced the opposite direction.

"Tracey," Zoey said softly, "Logan wants some more soup."

"Ok be right there," Tracey sighed unhappily.

Her brother had the flu for he needed a lot of assistance. Tracey had been making him soup with anything she could find. Yesterday she made him chicken noodle, using the leftovers from Mrs.Stout's dinner.

She also had some goji and blackberries growing for him, they helped cure the flu.

She went downstairs and headed towards the door to go outside. Tracey noticed that Mrs.Stoat was watching her favorite show, Survive in the Wild. Sometimes Tracey would try to sneak behind her and watch it but, she only managed to make out parts of what the people were saying.

She walked outside going to her secret garden. Well, it was sort of a secret. If you counted a few broken plant pots behind a large bush a secret. But Tracey didn't really care, she didn't have much she could take for granted.

She walked over to the plants and started picking juicy berries.

When she turned around she saw a dead rabbit.

"That would be good for soup," she thought. The kids had no money and there was a huge forest and creek in their backyard. So, they hunted and fished their own food and knew how to cook it. That's how horrible life was there.

Of course Mrs.Stoat shopped for her meals and made the kids cook it. Tracy and her friends had always stayed strong, some people had no homes at all. Only now wasn't the time for Tracy to be sorry for herself and she decided to stop thinking about this unbearable topic.

She quietly went back inside and cooked up the soup to bring to Logan.
