Chapter 21

I'm really uncomfortable...

I wasn't planning on just prancing into Mr. Reid's house today but I guess fate had other plans.
(A/N AKA ME)

I called Kate awhile ago telling her I'd be late working, so she doesn't worry again.

I'm currently sitting in Mr. Reid's dining room, opposite Mr. Reid's mother, in Mr. Reid's house.

Everything is about Mr. Reid today huh?

"Juliana, we didn't get to converse properly during the event so I wanted to get to know the woman who is supposedly the best assistant that has ever worked for him"

"I'm just doing my job Ma'am"
"It's Alison to you sweetheart"
"Alison"
"Mother remember, she is just here to work and she'll leave, where did you even hear that?"
"Work?!"

"Yes, we still have unfinished business to take care of"
"Then why didn't you just finish it at the office and then come home?"

"I had an unexpected visit from Issac and he occupied half of my time"
"For your information, I heard about Juliana through Issac, he's a good boy... and my buddy in poker!"
"Mother!"
"A woman has to stay in shape in her golden years, physically and mentally"

"By gambling?!"
"Don't act like you never used to do it"
"You used to gamble?" I asked curiously.
"Oh he did, back in his-"
"Mother what is for dinner tonight?"
Talk about abruptly changing the subject.
"Your favorite, Broccoli Quiche"

"I love Broccoli Quiche too! It's an easy and delicious dish, my mom used to make it when I was younger and she used to add bits of bacon, it's the best thing ever, I remember my dad never left a bite on his plate and would always take it to work the next day"

"Does your mom like cooking?"
"Yeah and I guess I inherited that from her" I chuckled.

"Where are you exactly from, Juliana? For some reason I can't point out your accent or race"
"I'm Hispanic" I said smiling.

"No wonder" she nodded and a maid came in holding our dinner.

"Dinner is served" Alison said with a smile.

I took a bite and my critic mouth started talking.

"You should add a bit of lemon zest next time"
"Lemon zest?"
"Yes and ginger, it gives it a spicy yet subtle taste"
"I'll give that a try"

"Mother, you don't need to change your recipe, it tastes just fine the way it is"

"Oh hush Derick! Don't act like a spoiled jealous brat"
"Yes mother"

The mean part of me loves seeing someone put Mr. Reid in his place and the nice part of me finds his relationship with his mother adorable.

After dinner I picked up the plates and Alison looked at me confused.

"Juliana you're a guest, the maids will take care of it"

Like mother, like son.

"Please I insist at least with something as simple as this, I can't go to someone's house uninvited, let them cook for me and I just sit down"
