4:59pm ; at home

"Come on Piper, do something!" I whine at my dog, waiting for him to accomplish at least something during our walk. Right as I was going to turn back home, my phone began ringing.

"Hello?"

"Hi Annie." a deep, deafening voice boomed.

"What do you want from me now?" I whimpered.

"I think you completely forgot what tomorrow is: dance tryouts! And guess who is going to make the team?" the mystery person snickered.

"But in order to audition you have to make like.. an entire dance routine! I can't do that in one night — I can't even dance!"

"Well you might want to start learning."

And with that, they hung up.

In just one hour, I would be in the gym, trying out for the dance team, being judged by Brooke, Mads, and Riley.

"You're going to be okay Annie." Hayden says, placing his hand on my shoulder.

"There's only four spots on the team! I'm totally going to fail."

"Fail or succeed, I'll be in the bleachers, silently cheering you on." he smirks.

If only he didn't have to see me fail.

dance tryouts

"Okay everyone, if you're trying out check your name on the clipboard and take a seat on the left side of the bleachers! If you're only watching, move yourself to the right side of the bleachers. Scram!" Mads conducts.

The adrenaline rushes in of me; it was like I was on a rollercoaster that only went down. The bleachers quickly started filling up, and the only other girls I recognized (that were trying out) were Kenzie, Lauren, and Jayden. Big shock, am I right?

After a few people went, the "trio" went. As usual, Jayden's spot was in the middle; front and center. They did a hip hop piece and I'm not going to lie, it was pretty good. Jayden and Kenzie have been taking dance for years but Lauren is still catching onto it.

"Annie LeBlanc? Is she in here?" Riley asked.

"That's me!" I shrieked, hopping off of the bleachers.

"Show us what you got. I hope it's better from summer camp when you were ten." Brooke laughed.

Don't even ask me how I choreographed an entire 60 second dance in one night. I was up until 3 in the morning, but you got to do what you got to do.

The song "Crying in the Club" started blasting, and I began my routine. I actually felt like I was doing okay, and the crowd seemed to agree. Once I had finished, I was hoping at least one of the judges would've clapped. But the word "next" was all that slipped out of Rileys mouth.

What if I didn't make the team? What would happen to me? Around ten minutes later, everyone had finished their routines and it was time to find out who was going to be a part of the Varsity Attaway Dance Team.

"Alright everyone, gather around." Brooke said.

"So you all are amazing dancers in your own way, but this year we can only choose three people to join the varsity dance squad. First up, give a round of applause to Jayden Bartels!" Mads squealed. A round of claps and whistles erupted the room. I could hear Hayden's the most, even after I tried blocking it out.

"Our next addition is going to be Mackenzie Ziegler!" Riley added. Another immense amount of audience interaction filled the room. "Don't worry, you're next." I hear Kenzie whisper to Lauren.

"Finally, there is one more spot on the dance team. This was a tough one, but we really think this person has a lot of potential. Give it up for Annie LeBlanc!" Brooke cheered.

I would say the entire room was dead silent, but that'd be a lie. One person was clapping and practically screaming their head off.

And that was Hayden.

Turning around, I catch Lauren giving me a stink eye. I rush to the locker room to grab my things and take a quick shower.

Minutes later, the locker room began flooding with sad, tired girls who didn't make the team. Wrapping a towel around me, I go back to my bag to grab my clothes. Right as I got out of the stall from changing, I was interrupted by a tug on my shoulder.

Lauren.

"Think you can leave that fast LeLoser?" Lauren snickered.

"Yeah, my mom is waiting for me. We're having sushi tonight. Oh, I'm so sorry you didn't make the team."

"And I'm sorry you did. This isn't the end of it; you stole my spot. You have no idea what's coming for you." Lauren warned me.

I chose to not say anything back and rush past her. Thinking about it, I was now stuck on a dance team with Jayden, Kenzie, Brooke, Mads, and Riley.

I really just need some sushi right now.
