.

I stood alone on the stage with no words. The crowd looked confused, as did I. Peering my head over the audience, I could see Hayden exiting through the main entrance. I quickly followed him.

"Hayden, wait!" I called, dashing out of the school. I could see him get into his car. Shit, how was I supposed to catch up with him? But with no doubt, I was positive as to where he was going.

That cursed park.

Shoving my heels in my bag, I make a run for it. To my luck, rain starts to fall when I'm about halfway there. The sidewalk becomes as slippery and hazardous as an ice rink but the park was still a good ten minutes away. I've lived here for years and one thing I know is the back way through the woods. I could easily get to Hayden in a minute. The downside? The last thing any teenage girl wants is to be running around in the woods by herself late a night. But for Hayden, I'd do anything.

The second I enter the woods, I know I want to leave. Twigs prick at my bare feet and raindrops find their place on my shoulders. I'm almost there until I hear a sound. A person. Scared, I sprint the fastest I ever have in my entire life. Unfortunately that didn't do me any good because within seconds I feel me and another figure crash into the dampened dirt. "I'm sorry." I say, worried. He helps me up, and even in complete darkness I can tell its Hayden.

"Annie, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have run away like that. Everything I said is true. I was just afraid you didn't feel the same way and I would have to get rejected in front of the entire school."

"I really like you Hayden. In fact, I love you. As more than a friend."

He takes his thumb and wipes a speck of dirt off my cheek.

"I've been waiting for this moment ever since I saved you from that nasty kid who pushed you down the slide." he smiled.

Chuckling, I tuck a piece of wet hair behind my ear.

"This is the moment we've been waiting for and I look like I got in a nasty fight with a family of pigs." I sigh.

"You look beautiful."

"Prove it." I answer him.

With that, he leans in and I experience yet another kiss with a Summerall. The Summerall. My Summerall.

"Do we have to go back to the dance?" I complain.

"Of course not, my place?" he asks.

Nodding my head, he takes my hand and we head to his car.

-

"Here we are." Hayden smirks.

Closing the door behind me, I immediately head to the downstairs shower to clean up. Its just the two of us, and Hayden goes upstairs to shower in another bathroom. Once all the dirt and grime is off of me, I wrap a towel around by body and call for Hayden. He shows up at the other end of the door, his hair messy (and cute) paired with some grey joggers and a camo t-shirt. "Can I borrow some of your clothes? My dress is disgusting and I'm too lazy to go to my place." I say.

"Of course, hold on." he answers before dashing up the stairs. Within a few minutes, he comes back with black joggers and a maroon hoodie. Once I'm dressed, Hayden makes some popcorn while I sit on the couch, scrolling through Netflix.

"Want to watch On My Block?" I suggest.

"Anything for you, princess." he answers, making his way to the sofa. He places the popcorn on the coffee table as he throws a grey blanket over us. I shiver once he puts his arm around me. Its perfect. Everything about this is perfect.

About an episode later, there is almost no popcorn left. Reaching for the last handful, I'm surprised to feel a hand instead of the snack.

"Annie, take this." Hayden says, taking his free hand while giving me a sheet of paper.

Dear Annie,

Smart. Beautiful. Hilarious. Sweet. Giving. Strong. Brave. Perfect. That all describes you. I can't imagine doing anything without you. And I just want to call you mine.

I blush.

"Hayden.." I began.

"...Will you be my girlfriend?"

"I would love that more than anything else in the world." I reply.

He smiles at me while placing a kiss on my lips.

Head on his shoulder, I begin to think.

This is the life I've always wanted.

Hayden Taylor Summerall is a dream come true.
