Overthinking

Ryan knew he had to face this because it was going to occur at some point. There was no way of avoiding what was bound to happen.

He had to talk to Shane about what happened with, well, the towel.

It was a typical evening in the Madej residence. Shane was on his couch watching another episode of Law and Order. Man, he loved that show. Especially since Serena Southerlyn, one of his idols, played  a role on it.

He was right at the part when they figured out who killed the two children. They were accidently shot by a fourteen year old, hired killer.

"Eh, makes sense." Shane said out loud as if Ryan was in the room with him.

When Shane didn't receive an agreeing sound after, he realized that Ryan wasn't there. Shane looked to the right of him. He missed Ryan. To be honest, his life would be pretty boring without Ryan but Shane didn't want to admit to that. He would never, in a million years tell Ryan that he appreciated him.

Shane's phone vibrated. He glanced at his phone, only to see that it was a text message. He debated whether he should answer now or later because he didn't want to seem like some creep waiting to get a text message. Sadly, that was kind of exactly what he was like.

He didn't really care at this point so he picked up his phone. Ryan texted him.

Ryan:

Can I stop by your place? We need to take.

Shane looked up from his phone, a bit concerned. As soon as he looked up, he felt his leg vibrate nearly making him jump. It was simply his phone that was in his lap. It was Ryan, again.

Ryan:

**talk. stupid autocorrect.

With a goofy smile on his face, Shane texted back.

Shane:

Sure thing. What's up buddy, you chilling man?

On the other side of the line, Ryan read the message with an agitated grin. He hated how Shane made him laugh when he was trying to be mad or serious. Ryan didn't respond as he pushed his phone away.

Shane was pretty concerned when he didn't get a respond back, but was instead left on read. Did Ryan finally figure out that when they were staying in New Orleans, Shane used his toothbrush to clean his shoes? Ryan would be furious.

Shane tried not to think much of it as he continued to watch Law and Order to pass the time before Ryan would get here.

Shane heard a  faint knock at the door. He lazily pulled himself off of the couch and started trudging towards the door, letting out a huge groan that Ryan could hear from outside. Ryan rolled his eyes at his friends laziness.

"Greetings." He said to Ryan as he opened the apartment door. Ryan tried to hold back his smile, but it just slipped out.

"Hey Shane." Ryan said to him as Shane sat back onto the couch.

"So, what's up? What ya wanna chit-chat about today?" Shane flashed Ryan an innocent, cheeky smile. Ryan didn't have time for his humor and was beginning to get angry.

Ryan got up and started pacing around quickly. He was getting angry and he needed to cool down before he had a mature conversation with Shane.

Unfortunately, he should've known that mature and Shane never went into the same sentence.

"Okay, I'm just going to say it," he sounded flustered. "You took my towel? Why? Was it just some joke or..." Ryan trailed off.

You know that feeling when you want to tell someone the truth but it might ruin everything? Well, that's how Shane felt because he knew where this conversation was heading. So, to avoid the situation, he decided not to lie but to mend the truth a bit.

"How do you know that was even me?"

"I saw it in your backpack." Ryan said as he folded his arms and pinned Shane with an accusing look.

Darn it. "Okay fine, it was me."

"Wow, really? I didn't know!" Ryan rolled his eyes. "But why?"

This is where he mended the truth. "Just for a good old prank, ya know?"

"Just a prank? That's it?" Ryan questioned, feeling stupid that he ever thought of it as something different.

"Yes, I swear. There was nothing else to it."

Ryan felt like an idiot. He definitely got ahead of himself. "I'm sorry. I over thought this whole thing."

"It's cool bud. Now let's get down to some Law and Order." Shane patted the couch, gesturing for Ryan to sit.

Ryan finally relaxed and let out a sigh.

Shane spent the rest of the night watching Law and Order with Ryan. Unfortunately, he didn't catch anything Serena or anyone else was saying because he couldn't stop thinking of why he took that towel and the man sitting next to him.

He'd have to rewatch all those episodes again.
