The crowd went silent. Not even Licht or the baboon uttered a thing. All eyes on me, and I knew that I would be dead in a moment. Others' faces demanded for explanation. Probably at least about what the hell was I talking about.
His voice was soothing, but too cold that it froze my body close to death. The baboon asked me.
'Do you know what it is called?'
The monkeys locked their eyes on me. Making me realized how any of them were even after days.
'I haven't decided what the title, yet.'
'I am not talking about that, Ms. Pearl.' His intonation showed infuriation more than his voice. 'I am talking about what you did.'
My throat felt drier than ever, 'It's a poem. I think you already know.'
'No. It is called... betrayal.'
'Excuse me?'
'I don't want to know where you learned it. It will upset me even more. But look, here, what makes you think that you have the right to speak in human—IF—you are not a part of them?'
I chocked. Swallowing my arrogance for having enough self-control not to laugh.
'Because I can. And if I become a human in the future, must I speak like one.'
'No... no... NO—'
'Well then what makes you think you can teach us how to be human if you're not a part of them?'
I just turned a prince charming into a mentally disturbed serial killer.
'YOU MUST NOT TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!'
That moment, not a single creature breathed. But me.
'Just because later on two of you will be humans, doesn't mean that you can just stop using our first language, our animal language, our mother-tongue language, our home language.'
'I don't stop using animal language. I am talking to you in what? Human language?'
'STOP TALKING BACK!'
At that moment what I wanted to do was to hit him with a huge sharp rock, so he could stop being such a pain in the tail by acting like he could control me.
'You have no respect towards your own land. That is what I see.'
'I don't respect my land because I speak in a different language? Fine. Send me home if you dare.'
To my surprise, he stopped talking. He didn't move. He didn't blink.
The silence became louder than his yell. Licht thanked me for my time and gently asked me to go back to my cubicle. I could not refuse because that was exactly what I wanted. I wanted to sleep. I wanted to rest. I wanted to breathe. Though I did want everything to be over.
And while I walked, monkeys' eyes were on me.
I could feel it. I could feel them
Judging me. Valuing me. Criticizing me. Whispering about me.
I turned my back once again to look deep into the baboon eyes and encouraged myself to say,
'Just because you have a large number of your species, doesn't mean that you can dictate me of what I will do. I won't stop here. I'll continue what I've been doing, and I'm going to finish what I've started.'
Licht moved his head slowly from left to right gave me a sign to go, and so I did. I walked back to my cubicle. As fast as a mouse could do.
On my way back a little bit far from the Christmas tree, a dark small creature blocked my way home. With her lips like Joker and her eyes like tennis balls, she said, 'Congratulations on your failure, Failure.'
'How do you even get here?'
Insulsus shrugged her shoulder, 'Magic? Ahahahahaha!'
I walked straight forward not minding what she was trying to tell me. Her voice disappeared as I fled from her hell-ish laughter.
The second I arrived, I hid myself under a pile of leaves beside the cubicle where my friends and I used to gather. I missed the first days we got there. I missed Hyena and Decorus. I missed everyone. I wanted to go home, but I wondered why the baboon didn't shoo me.
Even more confusing. Why didn't I excuse myself from this insanely torturing situation?
With my head on the ground, I closed my eyes and felt Ieiunium's paws all over my body. And every time she was there, I escaped the reality.
