REN'S POV

I turn my head to find the source of the noise, my heartbeat increases with shock. I wasn't expecting anyone to be up here tonight.

I stare at my neighbour. The hot, nameless stranger that has intrigued me.

He lives on the same floor as me. I've seen him around the building, walking down the hallway, taking the stairwell instead of the elevator.

I see him in his work uniform from time to time. Every time I see him, he has the look of determination on his face.

He fiddles with his fingers due to the tension. He wasn't expecting me to be up here, just as I wasn't expecting him.

Why would he come up here? Isn't he celebrating New Year's Eve?

He coughs in with awkwardness. "I'm-I'm sorry, I didn't think anyone would be up here." He scratches the back of his neck.

I continue to stare at him, his flawless features. I've always noticed how hot he is but, seeing him this close is new. "I'll go." He says, beginning to turn around but I stop him.

Yes, I wanted to be alone up here tonight, to clear my head. But, he seemed to have the same idea, giving us something we have in common.

Maybe we can finally talk after I've been watching him for the past year.

"No, you can stay." I say with a side smile.

He nods stiffly, hesitantly walking over to me and sitting in the garden chair about two yards away from me.

I break my gaze, fishing my pocket for my pack of smokes and my lighter. I take one from the pack, lighting it up and sticking it in my mouth. I feel him stare at me.

I peer at him, offering him a smoke. He turns it down and I shrug, shoving the items back in my pocket. I inhale deeply before breathing the smoke out.

"You live on the same floor as me, right?" I look over at him as I break the silence.

He's still fidgeting with his fingers and I can tell it's a nervous habit of his. "Yeah, nice to meet you. Officially." I nod in agreement.

"You don't have any plans for New Year's Eve." I point out.

"What makes you say that?" He asks, raising an eyebrow.

I suck on my cigarette again before answering with a smirk.

"A guy who had plans would not willingly stay on this rooftop with me. Plus, you're a bit underdressed to be going out so I put two and two together."

He purses his lips together, before staring down at his watch. "According to my watch, there's about three hours left of the last night of the year." He looks at me. "Maybe I do have plans."

I eye him carefully. "Do you?"

He lets out a sigh. "Nope. What about you?"

I think of what my plans were. The only plan I had for tonight for to lose my virginity to Tyler.

I should've known I wasn't ready and I'm still kicking myself for trusting him. I scoff, not looking back on the events of tonight with regret and sadness but with anger.

"I was supposed to lose my virginity tonight." I mumble with shrug, realising I don't care what this guy thinks about me.

I usually have no filter when it comes to certain people. I've decided this guy is someone I want to have no filter around.

I wasn't like this around Tyler but this guy, I don't know what it is but he doesn't seem like the kind to judge when it comes to first impressions.
