trigger warning.

GRAYSON'S POV

The longer I'm with Ren, the more I like her. She's nothing like I imagined. I mean, she skateboards, she smokes, she lives alone.

She's alone too, just like me. And in that second, I didn't feel alone anymore.

I still feel her hand gripping mine from before. She held my hand, voluntarily. That simple gesture somehow made everything feel a little better.

It doesn't surprise me that she knew I'd left my family. She knows quite a lot about me without me having to tell her.

It's a little hard to read her though. There are some things about her that I can't decipher. She's good at hiding them.

I don't expect her to tell me, but it would be nice to get to know her.

The way she spoke about her brother, I knew something happened between them. But I didn't want to pry.

"Fine." I mumble.

Ren clasps her hands together in excitement. I'm scared shitless to try and skate, especially without a helmet and even if it is on the smaller ramp.

I walk up to the top of the ramp with Ren following behind me. I drop the board on the edge of the ramp and turn to look at Ren who seems very excited.

"So, once you step on the board, you have to slowly push yourself down and then you'll slide down." She explains.

My head is spinning from fear. I gulp nervously, stepping onto the board and I immediately grab Ren's hand for support.

"You can do it." She whispers, our faces inches apart. I fight the urge to look down at her soft lips and close my eyes.

I take a deep breath, my eyes opening and I push off the ramp, my heart beating erratically. I slide down the ramp slowly. Holy shit, I didn't fall.

"Pro skater right there." Ren shouts and I turn my head to see her smile but not before I lose my balance on the board and fall flat on my back. I moved too fast.

I groan as pain grows in my lower back and I hear Ren gasp. Her footsteps grow closer and she kneels down next to me.

"Shit, are you okay?" Her hands fall onto my shoulders and I let out a strangled breath.

"Yeah." I convince myself, a small laugh leaving my lips.

"You sure?" She raises an eyebrow. I nod. "Geez, it was like Eleven knocked you down." Ren comments. An amused smile forms on my lips.

"Nice Stranger Things reference."

"Thank god you got it. I was worried you hadn't seen it."

"Who hasn't?" I smirk and she bites her lower lip as her hands grasp mine hands. She pulls me into a sitting position before sitting next to me. "Thanks." I breathe out.

"Sorry for making you do it." Ren apologises sheepishly.

I shake my head. "Don't be, it was fun. For like two seconds." I laugh and so does she.

She lets out a sigh, pulling the denim sleeves of her jacket up to her elbows. I notice something. Something that makes my stomach turn.

Scars run along her wrists and my heart breaks. She's hurt herself before.

Ren catches me staring and quickly pulls down her sleeves, as if I'd forget what she's done to herself. She crosses her arms, and I sigh sadly.

"Why?" I ask in a whisper.
