Rain.
It rained all the time.
And Jack hated it.Every day, he walked home from school, alone. No umbrella. No one to walk with. Until Mark showed up.
He was walking home, in the rain, again, when he noticed a car screech to a stop and a kid looking about his age being thrown out. Interested, he crossed over and immediately recognized the boy. It was Mark Fischbach, that kid who was always goofing off in Science. He extended a hand. "Need some help there Fischbach?" He asked. Mark looked up from the pavement. He had a large graze along the side of his face. "Y-Yeah, I guess," he replied sheepishly, taking Jack's hand.
"So you're Jack, right? The new exchange student?" Mark asked. "Yeah, tha's right," Jack replied. "Who were those people in the car?" He asked. Mark tensed. "N-No one," he muttered. "Anyway, I'll see ya at school! Bye Jack!" Mark called, walking away. "Er, yeah. See ya," Jack murmured.
~next morning~
Jack woke up to his alarm blaring in his face. He was late! He grabbed his backpack, slipped into his clothes, and threw a beanie on his head. Running out the door, he yelled a quick goodbye to his parents before running to the bus stop. It was all in vain, for as soon as he got there, the bus was pulling away and leaving. Sighing in frustration, he started the long walk to school. It was going to be a long day.
When he finally got to school, he went straight to homeroom. "Sorry 'm late Mr. Link," he muttered. "No problem Jack! Are you having a Good Mythical Morning?" Mr. Link replied. " Not really," Jack mumbled, taking his seat. It was about 8:12. Homeroom would end in about 8 minutes. Looking around the room, he saw his best (and only) friend, Felix, along with his girlfriend Marzia. He saw the kids who had shown him around on his first day, Dan and Phil. And- that was weird. Mark's seat was empty.
Speak of the pink mustached devil. Mark burst into the room, out of breath, and took his seat. "S-Sorry Mr. Link!" He said, catching his breath. "Mark, you've been consistently late to homeroom recently. Is there something keeping you from getting to school on time?" Mr. Link inquired. "No, I just have to walk to school now, and it's it's kinda far," Mark shrugged, the sheepish look once again appearing. Stretching out his arms, Mark sat back in his chair. And Jack immediately noticed something. Along with the now healed scratch on his face, Mark now had a series of bruises along his upper arm. Where could those have come from?
Mark felt eyes on him and turned to see Jack staring at his bruises. Flushing pink, Mark pulled his arms down, making his sleeves hide the bruises once more. Jack looked away, embarrassed that he had been caught. But he kept thinking. When did those bruises appear?

Lunchtime. Mark's favorite part of the day. Walking out of the gym to the locker room, he slipped off his gym shirt. He was about to slip on his regular shirt, when he heard someone come in. Turning around, he saw that Jack had come in, tired from a long hour of kickball. "Ah! Oh, hey Jack!" He said, slipping his shirt on. "Mm? Oh, hey," he replied. Mark quickly slipped off his gym shorts and pulled his jeans on as quickly as possible. "Well, see ya!" Mark called, grabbing his book bag and running out. Jack brushed off the goodbye and was about to change when he noticed something. A keychain of a box with a face, and a pair of keys on it. "Wait! Mark! You forgot your keys!" Jack called out. But Mark had already gone.
