Jack's POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mark pretty much just stayed at my house the rest of the day. Neither of us went to school, but it's not like either of our parents would care. He seemed kinda happy, but occasionally he would blush and look away, mumbling nonsense under his breath. I couldn't tell what he was saying, but I think it had something to do with me or Yami. We didn't do much, but we did have a common love for video games, so we did that for the majority of the time. I just couldn't help but notice how his face lit up whenever he started winning, and the determination in his eyes when he was falling behind. Jeez, he was like a small child.
Before we knew it, it was a bit late, around 10:20. Mark sighed. "Well, I should probably get going," he said, looking out the window. "Nonsense, you don't need to leave," I replied. "B-but I really don't want to be a burden or anything-" But just as he spoke, lightning flashed across the sky, followed by a loud boom. He jumped, frightened. I grinned. "I think the weather gods are saying you should stay. Besides, you ain't a burden. It's, well, kinda nice having someone around the house." He looked at me, confused. "Where are your parents anyway?" He asked. I stared down at my feet. "They're always on business trips, so I'm normally alone," I murmured. I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked back up to see Mark, while his face was tinted pink, was giving me a kind smile. "You shouldn't be alone all the time. You should invite friends over more often," he suggested. I blinked, awestruck. God he was so adorable! Why would anyone want to hurt someone like him?! He was... He was...
A huge crash echoed through the sky, and the lights flickered off. Mark let out a yelp. "Ah. Power's out. Expected that I guess," I muttered. Feeling around, I found Mark's hand in the darkness. "Come on, let's go find some candles," I said, helping him to his feet. I felt him stumble, and caught him. "S-Sorry," he stuttered. "It's fine. You ok? You seem scared." He shivered. "I hate thunderstorms..." He whispered. "Hey, it's alright. Let's go get those candles," I whispered back. I flicked on my phone to use as a flashlight. Even so, I managed to trip over things. And by things, I mean absolutely everything. Eventually, I made it too the closet. I pulled out a matchbox and a few candles. Setting my phone down, I struck a match against the strip on the box, and held the burning ember to the wick of the candle. I held another candle close to the first, successfully lighting it. I then turned around and handed one of the candles to Mark. He took it carefully, the light reflecting off his glasses and in his eyes. He seemed completely in awe of the tiny flame. "What, never seen fire before?" I joked. "Not up close," he replied, still staring, mesmerized, at the candle. I smiled, looking at him. I think I found the word I was looking for earlier.
Perfect.
Mark's POV
I held the candle up to my face, the small light was comforting. I could feel the heat around my hand. That wasn't the only thing I could feel though. I could feel Jack staring at me. Looking back up at him, my chocolate eyes met his river blue ones. Breaking eye contact, he looked away, embarrassed. I set the candle down on the counter. "Ja-" A huge lightning bolt ripped through the air, followed by a huge boom.
"Jack!" I cried, throwing my arms around him. He seemed shocked, but wrapped his arms around me comfortingly. "It's alright, it's alright," he whispered. I hugged him tighter, whimpering in fear. He kept comforting me, holding me close. "Mark, it's ok. I'm here. You're alright," He soothed. "J-Jack..." I mumbled. "Hm?" He responded. "Thank you..." I lifted my head up, tears in my eyes. He stared at me, sighed, and wiped the tears away. "Don't cry, please," he whispered. I sniffed, looking into his eyes. His beautiful eyes. Attached to such a gorgeous face. I wanted to. I needed to. I couldn't help it.
Leaning up, I smashed my lips into his. His eyes widened, and his arms around me gripped tighter. This felt right. Even though I knew it was a bad idea, I wanted to enjoy these few seconds of pure bliss. He didn't seem to do anything, just stand there in shock. This was bad. I pulled away immediately, backing away with fear on my face. "Mark, you-" "O-Oh god, I'm so sorry!" I cried. He stepped closer and I scooted away. "Mark it's-" "Oh my god, you must think I'm an idiot!" "Mark please just-" Jack reached out to me, but I backed toward the door. "I'm sorry!" I cried. I flung the door open and ran out into the down pour. I ran and ran and ran, away from him. I heard him yelling my name, but I payed no attention.
I just ran.
