(3rd Person POV)
Jack ran out of the house, jacket flying behind him, as he ran to the bus stop. He wanted to get up early today, because he was sick of walking. But he failed. He once again arrived as the bus was leaving. And once again, it started to rain. Huffing in frustration, he pulled his hood up and started walking. He didn't actually live that far from the school, just about a mile and a half. But when you oversleep and miss the bus a lot, and it's raining hard constantly, you get sick of it.

He was about halfway there. He could tell because he always passed this weird tree in front of someone's house. It looked like someone had been climbing up and down it constantly. He had just passed it, when he heard a loud bang come from the house. Looking back over his shoulder, he saw someone run out of the house, clutching an umbrella, nearly tripping, and slamming the door. The boy looked kinda like Mark. The boy turned from the door, looked over across the street, and saw Jack standing there. A smile grew on the boy's face, and he waved. "Hey Jack!" He called. Jack realized it was Mark, and waved back, letting a small grin slip on his face.

(Jack's POV)

Mark walked across the street quickly to greet me, but I noticed something. He disguised it well, but he was limping. Was he always limping? Am I just noticing it now, or is it new? He made it across and smiled. "Why are you walking in this weather?" He asked, opening the umbrella. I shrugged. "Missed the bus. You?"  "Parents are at work, they can't drive me," He grimaced. He brightened up quickly. "I'm getting my permit soon though!" He said cheerfully. I chuckled at how he could be happy, even when he had to walk to school in the cold rain. I stared down at my feet. "Yeah. I wouldn't mind walking if it didn't rain so much," I muttered. Suddenly, I felt the raindrops stop falling on my head. I looked up to see Mark holding his umbrella over my head as well as his. He was looking at me, and sort of smiling. "You can share my umbrella, if you want," he said, blushing a bit and looking away. I felt my cheeks heat up, and I stepped closer under the umbrella, closer to Mark. "Thanks," I said. He looked back at me. I looked at him. We both stared at each other in silence.

He finally broke the silence by laughing. "Is this a staring contest or something?" He giggled. I had to laugh. He was kinda right. "We really should get to school though, or Mr. Link's gonna kick our asses," I said. He nodded, and we both continued walking to school, in the rain.

We finally reached the school, with ten minutes left in homeroom. We both went to our separate lockers, and met up again in homeroom. Mr. Link wasn't that mad, I think he was grateful that we showed up in the first place. We sat down in our seats, and waited for the bell to ring. I saw Felix in the back corner, brooding, and sneaking glances at Marzia. She had asked to switch seats, so now she was sitting next to Mark, who was right behind me. She was talking to Mark currently. I didn't mind. They would probably get along, after all, their boyfriends were cheating on them with each other. That's probably what they were talking about. The bell rang and I stood up abruptly. Grabbing my book bag, I swung it over my shoulder and was about to leave when Mark called my name.

"J-Jack?" I turned around. "Yeah? What is it?" He looked kinda shy, but he faced me anyway. "W-would you... maybe want to... er... You know what? Forget it. See you at lunch," he murmured, and ran out of the class. "Um, ok?" I said, but Mark was already gone. Something was wrong with him. His eyes had suddenly lost that excited sparkle, and he sounded so... depressed. I've never heard him talk like that before, not even before we got more, well, acquainted. I shook my head, telling myself that I was overreacting, I must have imagined it. Shrugging, I picked up my bag, which had fallen, and walked out as of the room.

(Mark's POV)

Ugh, I can't believe I just did that... I pretty much just humiliated myself in front of him... I can't do anything right, can I? I walked through the hall, and though I might have looked like the stupid goofball that people "liked," I was soulless on the inside…
