Return to School

Hermione's POV

"Honestly what is taking them so long with the letters?" I complain. I am sharing a compartment with Neville, Luna and Ginny on our way back to school on the Hogwarts express. It's been a week and still no letter from the ministry saying who we're matched with.

"At least I get to stay with Harry" Ginny says smiling. Harry and the Weasleys had seen us off at the station. I drove myself as I got my drivers license and used mum's old car. Which was left behind when she and father moved to Australia after I altered their memories.

"So you got the ok from the Marital department?" Luna asks and Ginny nods her head.

"Good for you Ginny" Neville says smiling.

"So when's the wedding?" I ask smiling at something happy to look forward too.

"Not until after I complete school, so probably the end of June. That way we can have our honeymoon, but be back for his birthday" she states smiling.

"Who do you think we'll be paired with?" Neville asks nervously.

"Someone compatible to what we said in those forms, we just have to trust the Marital department. That they know what they are doing" I tell them.

"I heard they were using the goblet of fire" Luna states.

"I thought that was only used for the Triwizard Tournament" Neville says confused.

"I can't think of anything better to pick your partners, that way there's no human error" Ginny states shrugging.

"I agree" I say after thinking it over. We reach Hogsmeade station and get off the train. Then get a carriage together, now pretty much everyone can see the Thestrals. They play us to school and we get inside. Luckily it was a clear night, it isn't suppose to rain for a few days yet.

We all sit at the Gryffindor table and smile at seeing McGonagall in her rightful place. Katie Bell is the new Transfiguration teacher and while Lupin is head of Gryffindor house. She maybe young, but apparently got an outstanding in Transfiguration in her NEWTs and got her diploma during Hogwarts being rebuilt. I myself am looking to being either the new Charms professor or working in the ministry for the control & regulation of magical creatures department. Maybe both if I can handle it.

The first years arrived and were sorted into their houses. McGonagall said a couple of words and the feast began. I notice Professor Snape at the head table along with Lupin and smile. Professor Snape is a better Potions master then DADA teacher. While Lupin is an amazing DADA teacher. Draco was Snape's apprentice this year studying for a degree in Potions. So that he can become a Potions Master and work at Saint Mungo's brewing potions. Anyway I focus back on my plate and begin to eat.

Snape's POV

Slughorn retired early, now I have to teach Potions again while the werewolf teaches DADA. At least I'll have Draco as an assistant, next to Granger he was my best student. I notice her sitting with her friends and smile slightly. At least I'll have one competent student this year.

I'm a little annoyed at how long the ministry is taking to find me a 'spouse'. I guess they can't find anyone. The thought saddens me a little, but I hide it. Besides according to Kingsley and Minerva no one else had received their matches yet. I serve my plate and begin to eat. Minerva stands at the end of the feast for her speech.

"The dark forest is out of bounds to all students, there is a list of band objects on Mr Flinch's door. This years Head boy is Anthony Goldstein of Ravenclaw and head girl is Hermione Granger of Gryffindor. This year there is no head boy and girl dorm. Prefects see them for your patrol times, that is all. Prefects show the first years to your dorms, goodnight" McGonagall states.

Of course Granger was made head girl, she is a goody to shoes and gets the best grades. She also helped defeat the dark lord. But Goldstein was a surprise, no doubt if Draco and Potter were here for their seventh year. One of them would be head boy. I heard that Weasley is captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team this year as well as a prefect with Longbottom. Even I admit Potter wouldn't of defeated the dark lord without Longbottom killing that stupid snake. That had nearly killed me, it would have to if Granger hadn't of stabilized me before returning to battle.

Anyway I should go to bed I have an early start tomorrow. Draco wouldn't start his apprenticeship until next week. He to is annoyed at having to wait so long to find his match. If his parents have any say, it'd be a pureblood. But they have no say in the matter. I reach my chambers and strip to my briefs before brushing my teeth & calling it a night.

No one's POV

Hermione to returns to her dorm late at night after her evening patrol. Her and Anthony had first patrol as the prefects had first years to worry about. She got changed and brushed her teeth. Before crawling into bed beside Crookshanks and falls asleep after pulling the covers over herself.

A/N

Picture above of Severus Snape and picture on the external link of Anthony Goldstein. I know I said Snape was teaching DADA and Slughorn was teaching Potions. But I then remembered Lupin and Tonks are alive in my book. So I want him to teach again, so Slughorn is retired again with Snape taking the Potions Master position at Hogwarts. While Lupin is teaching DADA again as head of Gryffindor.
