Chapter Fifteen: Comforting a Friend

[Zoe’s POV]

She sat there in the corner of my bed hugging her legs to her chest. She was broken, absolutely shattered. And I knew exactly how she felt. After hearing from her own mouth how much she had missed him almost killed me. To know that she was standing there unconditionally in love with this boy, who had cheated on her and she didn’t suspect a thing. I shook the memory away. It was the day after I had broken the news to Rachael; we chased after her yesterday and eventually talked her into coming back to my apartment and staying the night. As soon as she had woken up in the morning she just sat there, doing nothing… saying nothing. We tried to talk to her but nothing worked. If we were lucky we got a few words out of her asking for some water, or something to eat but that was all. I was standing just outside of the bedroom talking to Caitlin with the door shut.

“She needs to speak to him.” I said looking for a way to try and stop the pain she was going through.

“I don’t know if that’s such a good idea, I mean it’s only been one night since she found out her boyfriend cheated on her. Can you imagine if Harry did that to you, what would you want?” She asked me. I shivered at the thought. “You’re right; I know she just needs some time to recover. But she needs to talk to him. Maybe he can explain things better, and the sooner she talks to him about it and sorts this all out, the quicker she can move on.” I added.

“OMG. You’re right too! Why does this have to be so hard?” Caitlin asked.

“I know, it’s just I hate seeing her like this. I’d do anything to fix this if I could.” I said. And as soon as I finished our conversation was interrupted by the door opening. Standing in front of us we saw Rachael. Her eyes all red and swollen looking like she hadn’t slept in days.

“I’m ready to talk to him” She said as she walked past us both and sat down at the dining table not saying another word. She pulled out her phone and Dialled Liam’s Number. The phone began to ring as she held it close to her ear. This is the moment we’d all been waiting for. We’d all been dying to see what Liam had to say, and whether or not his excuses were worthy of being listened to.

[Liam’s POV]

“Hello?” I answered my phone at 2am in the morning. Who would be bothering to call at this time? I wondered. “Hi.” I heard a female voice say on the other end of the phone. The voice sounded worn out, it sounded strained and it sounded upset. I quickly pulled my phone away from my ear to check the caller ID and it was exactly who I was hoping it wouldn’t be. It was my girlfriend Rachael. Oh Shit.

“Hey Babe. What are you doing calling at this time in the morning?” I asked her sounding sleepy.

“Well what were you doing three nights ago when you decided you would cheat on me with a stranger you hadn’t even met from the club you went to? I’m sorry, I didn’t answer your question I just thought mine might be a little bit more of an importance. Don’t you think Liam?” She murmured through the phone.

“Listen, it’s not what you think.” I said trying to find a way out of this huge mess I liked to call a ‘healthy relationship’”

“No don’t you dare pull that shit with me Liam. I’ve been crying my eyes out over the past 12 hours, not even speaking to my closest friends, and sleeping with a broken heart all because of you, so I’m pretty sure it’s exactly what I freakin think!” She started to yell back at me.

“I’m sorry” I said hoping she would forgive me. It was short and sweet, maybe it would work.

“Oh good, cause I was thinking I could take you back and we could discuss this over a coffee and a biscuit. What do you think love?” She said sounding calmer.

“Really?” I asked feeling more relieved now.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” she screamed into the phone so loud I started to think I would need hearing aids. “Do you not understand how much you’ve hurt me Liam? Are you mentally retarted or something? You broke my heart! I did nothing wrong, I did nothing to hurt you, and then you feel the need to go out to a club and have a good time with a girl you don’t even know. You put that above our relationship! How could you? I trusted you!” she said as she started to break down crying. “I knew that there would be girls in America that would tempt you, I knew that! I could have broken it off before you left and saved myself all this heart ache but instead I decided to trust you and that is what you go and do? Really Liam, are you really that low?” She said still sobbing and then the phone went dead. She was right. What was I doing, why was I being so freaking stupid? I loved this girl, who was I trying to fool here? I’d broken her heart, and mine too. All over something that should have never happened. I felt the urge to call her back, but I knew she wouldn’t answer her phone, I’d already blown my chance to explain my side of the story to her and any hope I had of getting back with her was ruined. I’d lost someone who meant so much to me, and who played an important part in my life. And now I was going to feel the pain of losing her. I wanted to call it quits already, I was over this constant fear of being in a stable relationship with someone, and all I wanted right then and there was to have her back. To have her here in my arms, to hold her one last time. I’d already felt how hard it was to be away from her for 3 weeks, and now I was never going to have her ever again. I broke down into tears at the thoughts that were running through my head, as I lay in bed at 2:30 in the morning not being able to sleep. Could this get any worse?
