Chapter Twenty Five; No Show
[Harry’s POV]
As I stood backstage waiting to go on, a rush of enthusiasm and excitement hit me. Tonight was the night that could change everything. I’d made a promise to myself that if she showed up I’d tell her the truth about everything, because I know somewhere deep down in her heart she still feels the way I do. I’d tell her all about the management and how together we’d figure out some way to get around it. I was in love with this girl and no matter how many times I told anyone that, no amount could ever really explain my actual love for her. It was now or never; and as we were called onto the stage with our entrance music playing I didn’t hesitate. I ran on following Louis and Zayn, with Niall and Liam closely behind me. Wow. I was shocked, the crowd was huge like always, but somehow it still managed to take my breath away. The bright lights shinned into our eyes making it hard to see parts of the crowd, but that didn’t stop me looking for her. Shit, what seat was she sitting in again? I thought to myself trying not to zone out too much.
“How are we all!?” Louis shouted excitedly at the audience. No clear answer was heard, instead there were screams from thousands of girls in reply. Zoe, Zoe, Zoe was all that raced around in my mind as I desperately tried to spot her face amongst the thousands of other girls. As I searched the top seated balcony, all seats were filled, except one. Right in the middle of the audience there was one empty seat, the seat I had reserved for Zoe. Instantly, my thoughts were focused on the girl that had changed my entire world. Why wasn’t she here? I was interrupted when Niall lightly nudged me on the shoulder,
“Harry?” He asked concerned.
“Ah yeah, sorry, what are we doing?” I replied quickly trying to re-focus.
“We’re about to sing more than this, you okay mate?” He asked sensing that something was wrong. None of the boys knew about last night and the fact that I had invited Zoe, now really wasn’t the time to explain the situation.
“Ah, yep, all good. Let’s go!” I said running into position and forcing a smile for the sake of the fans that had come out to see me perform tonight. Although I tried hard I couldn’t stop the various questions that raced through my mind. What does this mean now? Does she still feel the same way or not? Everything was just a little too overwhelming right now.
[Zoe’s POV]
It was 11pm and I was sitting on the lounge watching a movie. My eyes had closed only seconds ago however I was interrupted by an unexpected text message. I picked up my phone from where it sat on the seat beside me. ‘One New Message’ it read. I unlocked my phone to see I had one new message from Harry. Sudden shock washed over me as I realised that I had decided not to make an appearance at their concert earlier this evening.
‘You didn’t show?’ was what I read from the lit up phone screen. My brows furrowed as I realised just how much I had let him down. He was now at least making an effort to keep a friendship and I wasn’t making the process any easier for him. Not knowing how to reply I chose to keep it short and simple. ‘Sorry; didn’t think you’d mind’ I replied trying to sound uninterested, and within a few seconds I got a response ‘You thought wrong…’ Harry texted back.I slammed my phone down onto the couch in frustration. Why did I have the tendency to screw everything up? Deep down I knew I missed Harry a lot, but what I really wanted an answer to was; why was I giving away the chances that I had to get back with him? My head began to ache as memories of our relationship came flooding back.
“I can’t do this anymore” I whispered to myself trying to calm down and stop myself from doing something stupid, but nothing I told myself could possibly work. I frantically fumbled around on the lounge and found my phone again. I dialled a familiar number and waited impatiently for a response on the other end. Seconds seemed like minutes as I waited for that same husky voice to echo inside my head.
“Hello?” I heard Harry mumble from the other end of the line.
“WHY HARRY!?” I immediately wailed into the phone that was gripped firmly in my right hand.
“Why did you do it!?” I said in a softer tone now as I let a tear slide down my cheek.
“Break up with you?” He questioned me making sure we were both on the same page.
“Please don’t say you don’t love me Harry, because I know you do!” I cried in anger. For too long I had kept my feelings inside and now I couldn’t hide the irritation, the fear, and the hurt any longer.
“Zoe, we need to talk. I’m on my way I’ll be there in five” He said in a warm tone and suddenly the line on the other end when dead. For god sake, what was with him and just wanting to show up? I hope he has something good to say, I’m tired of the same old boring excuses he puts forward.
And just like he said, he was on my doorstep within a few minutes. I opened the door to reveal his gorgeous face that exposed his tear filled eyes. And as soon as the door was open leaving nothing but a foot between us he walked straight in and grabbed me around the wait, instantly his lips found mine and my hands found their way to the familiar place around his neck. His kiss was rougher than what I expected and what I was used to, but it was full of meaning and passion. I was shocked at his actions but we both knew it was exactly what I wanted. He gently pushed me up against the wall as one of his hands snaked its way up my body and found its way to underneath my chin, as he slowly and unwillingly broke away in need of air. As I opened my eyes I found that a single tear had fallen out of his. “Will you let me explain?” He asked staring deeply into my eyes as he awaited a response. Shocked at what had just happened, I stumbled around to find the right words to say,
“Of course I will…” I said affectionately as I couldn’t help but smile at the beam of happiness that had now spread across his face. He lovingly wrapped his arms around me and held me tightly in a hug before taking my hand as he led me over to the lounge where he sat me down and began to explain. Half an hour later after Harry was finished explaining from start to the end about the break up and the reasons behind it, and I couldn’t believe half of the things that I had just heard. What pricks the management were for having him make such a ridiculous decision. I smiled as I realized that Harry had never stopped loving me, it was simply that he just couldn’t be with me.
“So you didn’t want to break it off with me? And it wasn’t that you didn’t love me anymore, it was because the management made you chose?” I said happily, blushing at the thought that Harry’s feelings for me were still present.
“That’s exactly right…” He said smiling. I could tell that he was happy, and pleased with himself; pleased that he finally found the courage to be honest with me.
“So… does this mean we’re back together?” I asked foolishly already knowing the answer to my stupid question.
“I think so…” Harry grinned cheekily as he intertwined his fingers with mine and pecked me softly on the lips. I laughed at him attempting to control himself as I re-met my lips with his. I could feel him smiling into the kiss and I couldn’t help but smile too. Everything was how I wanted it to be, I was happier than I’d ever been in quite a long time, and I guess you could say, thing were back to being perfect! J
