I remember tears streaming down your face,

When I said, "I'll never let you go"

When all those shadows almost killed your light.

Astrid held Hiccup's dying body in her lap and held his head close. He winced, but didn't say anything. Astrid glanced down, where a huge arrow protruded from Hiccup's stomach, leaving out the other side. Blood soaked the whole area, and dripped to the floor.

I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone"

But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight.

Toothless sat next to Hiccup and let out a low, sad sound. He nudged Hiccup's hand, and Hiccup smiled and patted the night fury weakly on the head. Toothless made the same sound again, but louder. Astrid gently put her arm around Toothless to calm him.

Just close your eyes,

The sun is going down.

You'll be alright,

No one can hurt you now.

Come morning light,

You and I'll be safe and sound.

----- Thirty Minutes Prior -----

The blazing fires caste eery shadows across Hiccup's room where he hid. Toothless nuzzled against him, which drew Hiccup's attention to the dragon's leg which he had injured only minutes ago. It seemed to be healing fine.

Don't you dare look out your window,

Darling everything's on fire.

The war outside our door keeps raging on.

Alvin and his troupes had been on them in a second. A single moment's hesitation before the whole village had been up in flames. But that wasn't the biggest problem. They could just rebuild it all, just like every other time.

But this time Alvin would make sure there was nothing left to live for.

Hold on to this lullaby,

Even when music's gone.

It all happened in a flash. The door was banging, Toothless growled and snapped at the intruder, Alvin. But he just knocked him aside, three strong men pinning Toothless to the wall.

Alvin came for Hiccup, picking him up as thought he were only a weed to be pulled from his garden. Hiccup struggled madly, but to no avail. "If you won't train dragons for me," he said, a wild grin on his face. "Then you're not training dragons for anybody!" And with that, he took one of his huge arrows and plunged it right through Hiccup, pinning his body to the wall.

Toothless screeched, louder than before, and the goons made their escape.

Just close your eyes,

The sun is going down.

You'll be alright,

No one can hurt you now.

Come morning light,

You and I'll be safe and sound.

Now Astrid held Hiccup's body close as his last dying breath escaped him. Tears flowed freely, both from Hiccup and Astrid, and surely Toothless, if dragons were capable of tears. Toothless sat close, his riders arm laid gently on his head. Hiccup struggled for breath as his heart slowed. "I-I'm s-sorry" he choked out, coughing up blood in the process. Astrid smiled sadly. She half-heartedly pretended to hit him. "This is for dying on me" she said, choking on tears. "And this is for everything else" she said. Astrid pulled Hiccup close and kissed him quickly. When she looked at his face again, there was a small smile.

But now his eyes were glassy, void of any life. There wasn't that usual spark of light, the one Astrid had seen everyday.

Astrid closed Hiccup's eyes, and Toothless let out an ear-piercing shriek that rattled the building. Astrid dropped her face in her hands and cried.

But no matter how much the two of them cried, it couldn't bring back the dead.
