Final Farewell

It was their final farewell.

It was unlikely they'd ever meet again, given the circumstances.

Xephos had found a way back to his home planet, and he couldn't help but want to go back. Honeydew had eventually found his dwarven kin in the deep dark, and they welcomed him.

Now they stood in front of each other, not knowing what to say. They knew it had to be goodbye.

Having already said goodbye to their many other friends, almost all of which had been tearful, it just left them. Tears already stained both faces and they hadn't even said anything yet.

"I'm sorry" said Xephos. "Why're you sorry? You're going home! It's great!" Honeydew said, trying to laugh. "Because I have to leave all my friends to do it. At least you can easily come and visit." he replied, wiping tears from his eyes. "Yeah..." Honeydew said sadly, wiping his own tears.

A buzzing sound came from the communicator in Xephos' hand, followed by what sounded like an alien language. Xephos had kept the communicator ever since he crash landed, not wanting to let it go. He sighed.

Xephos reached out to take Honeydew's hand, and gently placed the small communicator in it. Honeydew looked surprised, almost as if he was going to protest, but Xephos intervened. "No, you keep it. Keep it safe, keep it forever" Honeydew nodded and started crying again. Xephos kneeled down to give the short man a hug that felt like it lasted forever.

The communicator, now is Honeydew's hand, ended that forever with a short clip of alien language. Xephos stood once again. The dwarf and the spaceman walked to Xephos' ship. They hugged again, and Xephos started climbing aboard his ship. Before he shut the door, he looked at Honeydew. "Farewell, old friend. I can only hope that we meet again." With that, he closed the door.

Honeydew ran on his short legs to the Deep Dark portal, situated just outside the launch zone. Taking his place on top, he watched Xephos expertly initiate the launch. He looked up and saw Honeydew. Honeydew saluted to the spaceman, and Xephos saluted to the dwarf. Waving goodbye frantically, Xephos' ship took to orbit.

Honeydew watched as the spaceship flew away until he couldn't see it anymore. Then he took a moment before imitating the Deep Dark portal. Honeydew descended into the deep.

A blonde man in a labcoat sits on the bridge connecting two giant towers. It's Lalna, the once again lonely scientist. Now his two best friends were gone, and he had nobody. Climbing down, he stood in front of the supercomputer he and Xephos had built. And started to cry.

My old friend, I wish that I could see you once again...

A/N: It took all my willpower not to cry while writing this. I'm so sorry.
