Chapter Seven
"Hey Avery, come sit. We're just about to play spin the bottle with a twist." Jonah says like this is a must do. I look over at Macayla and she just shrugs her shoulders.
I guess we're playing.
I silently nod my head, walking over to sit in the cult-like circle.
A girl next to me decides to grab the corona bottle in front of everyone. It lands on boy somewhat diagonal to us.
"Alright, Scott. What's it going to be? Truth or Dare?" The girl asks and I admire her confidence.
"Dare." Scott smirks at the girl.
"I dare you... to... sing the Star Spangled Banner in a British accent..."
"Oh that's easy!" Scott begins to stand up when the girl adds another task.
"While stripping." She smirks and Scott gives her a playful glare. I have a feeling that they might have a history. They would totally be cute together.
Scott does his dare and though it's hilarious, I can't lie, Scott has a very toned body. He seems to love the attention he gets as he takes his seat in only his boxers.
The turns seem to go around in a circle. Someone spins the bottle, asks another person "truth or dare" and then it continues to the next person. I've done about two truths so far, mainly because these people are crazy when it comes dares.
It's now Jonah's turn to spin the beer bottle. 'Round and 'round the bottle goes until it slowly comes to a stop in front of me. I look up to see Jonah smirking at me.
"Truth or Dare? And don't you say truth." Jonah gives serious look and I feel tempted to just go along with saying truth. Yet I manage to gain enough confidence and say dare.
"I dare you to-" Jonah begins to say when someone comes and whispers I his ear. His eyes seem to dark for only a second before stealing a glance over to Zach and Kay laughing at something.
Jonah clears his throat and begins to say my dare again.
"I dare you to spend seven minutes in heaven, blindfolded, with... Zach." My jaw absentmindedly drops. No way. Zach seems to of heard and gives Jonah a what-the-fuck-look. Kay tenses and glares at me. Girl, I swear I have no part in this.
"Well, come-on. Up you two go," Jonah moves his arms, indicating for us to stand up. "Someone get them some blindfolds."
In a matter of seconds, Zach and I are on our feet and being dragged through the house. We approach a closet and I hope they can't hear my heartbeat fastening with each breath.
"Well, turn around so I can put these on you." The boy says to me. As I turn, I notice a handful of people gathered around us for the entertainment. Pricks. He places the blindfold on and then I assume he does the same to Zach. I hear a door open and a hand move to my lower back and push me.
I stumble from the sudden motion and grab the closest thing near me to catch my fall. I squeal as my back hits the floor and something lands on top of me.
"Have fun." I hear the boys voice again this time. Suddenly, I hear the sound of a door close and a few laughs on the other side. This has to be the worst scenario ever, especially with a boy I just met not even a week ago.
"Zach?" I ask, moving my arms out in front of me.
"Yeah, I'm here." I hear him sigh as he removes himself from me. "Here," I feel his hand wrap around mine and lift me up. "They honestly believe we'd keep these blindfolds for the entire time? Pricks." I feel him remove the blindfold from me and I'm engulfed in darkness. I snort quietly to myself considering I just called the people outside pricks too.
"So... you and Kay? How long has that been going on?" I mess with the hem of my shirt to keep me distracted.
"A month now. I like her and stuff but she's really clingy and always wanting to know what I'm doing." Zach says, I could tell that he wanted to get that off his chest.
"Well, what about the boys? What do they think of her?"
Silence.
"They don't. They don't care about it or anything to do with my love life. That is, until you showed up." My cheeks began to heat up.
"What do you mean by that?" I was trying to breathe like a normal person but I probably sound like I just ran a mile.
"Well it's always, 'hey have you talked to Avery? Is Avery coming over? What's the latest with Avery?' It's always about you." I couldn't tell if he was upset in a mad or sad way.
"I'm sure they only do that because we're close in age and assume we have the same mindset."
"Mindset?" I imagine that Zach raises his eyebrows and tilts his head to the side.
"I don't know," I laugh. "We're teenagers. We're crazy, young and stupid." I shrug my shoulders, now realizing that he can't see me.
"Yeah, I guess so."
There was a long silence between us before anyone spoke again.
Something felt off. I couldn't tell if it was the fact we were locked in a closet with barely any room for either of us. Or if it was the vibes I was getting earlier. I was about to ask another question before I heard the door handle, jiggle.
I'm pretty sure I heard Zach say "thank god" under his breath, I don't if I should be insulted or relate to it.
The door opens and I can see everyone looking at Zach and I with strange looks. I look to Zach and he widens his eyes when he looks back. He moves his hands to straighten out my hair.
As he does, he moves in and says: "it looks like we did more than just talk in there. to them, i mean." he moves back and places his hands in his front pockets.
We stand there, awkwardly, until someone breaks the silence by moving through the crowd.
"Avery?" The boy asks, trying to find me.
"Yeah I'm here." I raise my hand slightly.
"Here's your phone. There's someone named Andy that wants to talk to you." He hands me my phone.
"Hello Avery."
this took me over 2 months to write. i'm ashamed of myself for that.
