// NOTE:
This story may contain some sensitive topics so be careful :) Also swearing //The endless beeping and screeching of cars, loud and monotonous. The fog that shrouded the crowds of vehicles below, with the dying streetlights attempting to penetrate the blanket of haze. The ugly smell of polluted atmosphere, and the chilly night air - none of this mattered to him, not today. All he wanted was to see her again.
He was curious, more than anything. Curious of why such a young, attractive girl would want to come to a place like this. A place where, he felt, only those with no where else to go, no hope left, no one else to help them, went. Up onto the roof of this 37 story building, and straight back down again. Surely, surely, he thought, she can't be like those others. Surely, she mustn't want to do what countless others have done..right?
Today was the day. He checked his watch. 22:23. 7 more minutes until she arrives. 7 more minutes until he finally asks her why she comes here every night. 7 more minutes until he finally hears her voice - oh god how he longed to know what she sounded like. He was, to put it simply, in a way obsessed with her, whoever she was. It was like no matter what he did, he could never escape her mysterious aura, nor that image of her long, black silky hair flowing in the wind - to him, she looked like a goddess. But, in the end, he reasoned that she was just an ordinary girl, with an ordinary life, ordinary interests, and ordinary friends. Regardless, he needed to know something about her, more for his own sake than for anybody else's.
22:29. A minute, just 60 seconds before she would be walking up those stairs and opening that door. He had planned this all out meticulously, how tonight would go. First; he would stop her at the door and greet her, asking her for her name - complimenting her on it. If she was comfortable enough, he'd go straight in, asking her why she came here, and why she dangled off the edge of the building every night, at 22:30 on the dot. If she wasn't comfortable yet, he'd let her warm up to him first, telling her..something about himself. Once he will have gotten what he wanted, he'd..well that was the part Kim Namjoon was unsure about. What would he do when he —
22:32. He'd been lost in thought for too long and he'd missed his opportunity to intercept her at the door, and if there's one thing Namjoon hated the most, it was when things didn't go to plan. He wanted to do this tonight. He wanted, needed to find out why this girl was so damn interesting to him.
"Hold on.." he whispered.
Where was the girl? Looking around, he realised that he couldn't actually see her anywhere. Perhaps his watch was wrong, he suggested to himself. He checked his phone. It said 22:32 - his phone and watch's times matched.
"Damn. Where is she? Is she okay, did something happen?" He sighed. "Darling, I need to know that you're okay.."
A few minutes had passed, the time now was almost eleven o'clock. Where on earth could she have disappeared too? Perhaps..perhaps she had noticed Namjoon had been watching her, and she'd been scared off. Just the thought of that filled him to the brim with loneliness, regret. As more time passed, Namjoon began to become hopeless. Maybe he had unknowingly deterred her after all.
At exactly midnight, one and a half hours after she was supposed to appear, he had finally abandoned all hope, presuming that what he had thought of was more than just an idea, that he really had frightened her away forever. Since he had nothing better to do, Namjoon closed his eyes, drifting off into a short doze.
01:22. Namjoon's eye's snapped open. What had woken him up was the sound of sirens - granted, all night, every night, vehicles with sirens were whizzing all about the place, but these sirens, this time, he sensed something. Feeling slightly uneasy Namjoon dragged himself into a sitting position, trying to see if he could spot anything suspicious. Obviously, from his position he could only see the other buildings so he got on his feet and slowly crept over to near the edge of the building. Looking down, he new his instinct wasn't wrong.
Across the street, Namjoon spotted several police cars, all with their lights flashing and their sirens blaring. Looking closer at the scene, he could see several police officers surrounding a figure, and another bunch of them holding down and cuffing some oldish looking dude. Shrugging his shoulders, Namjoon walked back and sat down at his original position, hidden from view. He figured that since it was none of his business, and the culprit was caught, he might as well pretend he never saw anything and just go back to sleep.
Checking his watch for the final time that night, it read 01:26. Lying back down, he closed his eyes once more.
Bang.
The sound of metal on brick filled Namjoon's ears. He jolted up and saw..well exactly what he planned to see almost 3 hours ago, to his great surprise. There she was, the mysterious girl that he found so, so curious — although, Namjoon observed as he sat there, she looked to be a little..emotional. Angry or upset he couldn't quite tell which, but from her rather loud and dramatic entrance to her rather loud and dramatic - and inaudible - speech, he concluded that something big must have happened.
Moments pass. He just sat there watching her, his original plan out the window, not knowing what to do. She was less noisy now but that only made him grow almost scared. She was sitting in her normal spot; off the edge of the building, near the well placed benches, but she seemed..off. After a few more minutes, Namjoon finally, finally decided to go up to her. Slowly he stood up and walked over to her, and as he got close, he noticed that she was..crying?
He froze. 'Oh no..' he thought, 'what do I do?'
Realising what position he was in - approaching a young girl who is visibly upset - he had two options; either retreat, or go with it. He went with the latter, sitting down silently next to her, not daring to make a sound incase she got frightened or more upset. She didn't notice at first, but when she did notice the very tall, handsome, ash hair-coloured man sitting rather close to her, she did something Namjoon felt to be extremely unexpected. She leaned into him, laying her head on his lap.
He looked at the back of her head in shock, never for one second thinking that she would do something like that. Her eyes were closed, and she brought her arm up, placing it on top of the man underneath her. Namjoon didn't dare move much incase he moved her into an uncomfortable position, he just sat there, with the girl that he was so interested in lying on his legs, sobbing quietly, him glancing at her every so often.
Some time passed and, having somehow successfully moved both himself and the girl to a safe distance away from the edge, Namjoon finally drifted off into a much calmer, peaceful sleep.
But what did happen to her?
